It is an odd-toed ungulate mammal belonging to the taxonomic family Equidae. We recently visited Hatley and the gardens with friends and had a pleasant walk around the property. Luckily, we didn't have to pay to go through the gardens. Although there are a number of pretty flowers, they currently need a good clean up as there were lots of weeds, dead leaves and so on. The castle is an interesting looking... More

The well maintained gardens at Hatley Castle are well worth a visit at any time of year. The grounds keepers do an excellent job and keep the area always presentable. Its a great place to watch the seasons change, to stroll quietly beneath mature trees and enjoy the flowers and plants that line the pathways. The Japanese Garden component is... More

The Hatley Castle itself is a gorgeous building. Unfortunately you are not able to get into it as it is a school at this point. So we drove around the castle and out of the grounds. Very very disappointing. A visit to the Garden was VERY expensive....too much so.

In Colwood, just outside Victoria. Beautiful gardens, wonderful buildings full of history. Views of the ocean - popular place for ourdoor weddings. Castle. Elegant!

I love Hatley estate. If you ask most Victorians to direct you to a castle, most will point to Craigdarroch Castle, as few know the "other Dunsmuir castle" Hatley. It was built in the early 1900s by the eldest Dunmuir son, James. who was a former Premier and then Lieutenant Governor of BC). James said: “Money doesn’t matter, just build... More

In October, I took up residence as a student for three weeks at Royal Roads University. Unfortunately, I let studies overtake my time and didn't allot enough time to explore the gardens and grounds till I was done my residency. Garden lovers? Don't miss this one. Guys looking for a romantic place to propose? This is your place! Castle dreamers?... More

It was a long-long time ago when we visited the Hatley Castle gardens for the first time ~ there was a Military Collage, and no entrance fee. (We didn’t appreciate the introduction of the entrance fee some years ago). The gardens are so peaceful and beautiful that it becomes our tradition to visit them once a year. It is the... More

There are the Japanese, Rose and Italianate Gardens on the grounds. Even in winter there are things to see. The building and setting are lovely.
