When you realize that people had been living in these caves thirty thousand years ago, you are awed. Youstart. Wondering what their lives must have lbeen and what the landscape must have looked like with all the animals roaming the grasslands and the mountainside. Kudos to the ASI for maintaining the place so well.

As reported by UNESCO the place is a world heritage site a place one should not miss when in Bhopal. The rocks, the carvings, the paintings themselves depict the sea level during the evolution of man. Can be visited in season, can be said as half day visit and remaining day can be spent at Bhojpur Temple on the way... More

Families will love this little-known destination; wonderful carvings of animals and hunters that span many ages. Children will have fun looking for them; adults contemplating their historicity. A guide really isn't necessary.

If you are travelling from the Satpura national park to Bhopal, this is a small detour that is worth making. The site is well protected, with information in English as well as Hindi, and being able to see these very old rock paintings in situ is a very special experience.

As everything in India worth to see, to visit Bhimbetka is quite a trip. But this one is definitely worth it. The paintings on the rocks are exactly what you learned about in textbooks. There are many other places like this in India - one near Bundi we've had the pleasure to visit - but this one is well kept,... More

It's worth taking a guide so as to properly appreciate the artwork and its significance. A decent lens is worthwhile to ensure high quality pictures result. Overall it's well worth the effort to get here, and the 250 INR charge for foreigners.
