The Daroji Bear Sanctuary is on the road between Hampi and Bellary - 15 kms into the village roads. The sanctuary is open between 2 PM to 6 PM only unlike where most of the websites say 6 AM to 6 PM. So, plan your visit accordingly to visit post noon only ! One can combine this place if they... More

From small hill we can see Bears on rocks in front. We saw family of 6 bears on rock patch. There were Peacocks n Sunbirds in trees there. The small lake feels serene in forest down.

The bear sanctuary is a nice place and a tribute needs to be paid to the team that set it up and is nursing it. The place is ideal bear country. The onlookers though need to be educated about how animals need to be observed in their natural environment. There's hordes of children running around with their parents whose cell... More

I had heard a lot about this place, but was always skeptical due to the distance and also the amenities. The closet place to stay is Jungle Lodges Resort which is about 10-15 mins away from the Sanctuary. A different experience all together. They put us in this watch tower where you can sit and watch bears coming out to... More

In Indian state of Karnataka, Hampi is a renowned world heritage centre near Hospet, in Bellary district. There is a unique Sloth Bear sanctuary near Hampi at about 15km. Daroji Sloth Bear Sanctuary is probably the only such sanctuary in North Karnataka, which commenced from 1994 and it has established as suitable habitat for Indian Sloth Bears in these years.... You might be disappointed when you see the entrance at first. Its located at a very lonely place and there is no hustle bustle at the gate. One can hardly see 1-2 people there. There are no government or private tour organizers there and hence, you need a vehicle of your own. Once you tread inside, you will reach a... More

On one of the mornings in Hampi, we were fortunate to enjoy a bird watching hike around the beautiful Matanga Hills with a fantastic local naturalist/environmentalist/ornithologist/photographer gentleman named Mr. Samad Kottur - saw the rare yellow throated bulbuls and yellow bellied cuckoo in this hike. It was the photographs of Mr. Kottur (check web) around Daroji, bears, and his influential... More
