You might be disappointed when you see the entrance at first. Its located at a very lonely place and there is no hustle bustle at the gate. One can hardly see 1-2 people there. There are no government or private tour organizers there and hence, you need a vehicle of your own. Once you tread inside, you will reach a... More

On one of the mornings in Hampi, we were fortunate to enjoy a bird watching hike around the beautiful Matanga Hills with a fantastic local naturalist/environmentalist/ornithologist/photographer gentleman named Mr. Samad Kottur - saw the rare yellow throated bulbuls and yellow bellied cuckoo in this hike. It was the photographs of Mr. Kottur (check web) around Daroji, bears, and his influential... More

Faar away from Hampi, takes quite some time to reach there (which is ok. Not good if you are running sorry of time). We could hardly see any Bears though the view from the top is beautiful. Don't understand why they need to charge 500 bucks for your own Car. You can give this place a Skip.

Daroji Bear Sanctuary is simply a vast rocky area with trees at some places. I first visited this place when I was in school and I can now say that this place has lacked maintenance since then and lost its glory. It feels like the place has been abondoned. The terrible part is, for this really vast area, also called... More

I went to this place with the staff of the nearby Jungle Lodges Resort. They told us that there is a good chance to see bears in the evening although with wildlife there can be no guarantees. The staff brought along good quality binoculars and long-range spotting devices. We went to the site a little before sunset and had to... More

Lovely views of countryside on drive out from Hampi. The views from the watchtower in the centr of the bear sanctuary also impressive. Was told probably would not see any bears as it was mating season after about 2 hours.I saw 2 bears but need binoculars for a good view. i thought you would be able to drive around the place... One can go here by oneself or on a safari through the sloth bear resort run by Jungle Lodges. Eitherway a sighting of the bears is almost certain as they are fed by the authorities at a location that is easily viewed from the watch tower. Throw in the odd wild boar and peacock and the visit is a very... More

I really thought this was much a do about nothing. Nothing seen, just rocks and more rock. Not recommended to visit, but, there again, you might be lucky!

Horror of horrors, the fabled mango tree in Hampi was closed and we needed lunch. The restaurant staff at Daroji welcomed us, long after lunch had closed, apologising that they could only do a simple veg Thai from scratch. The surroundings are beautiful and the food was some of the best veg Indian I've had recently. Thanks very much! Can't... More
