Hubby and myself ran away from work on a Monday and found Van Galen open. Their coffee alone is worth the trip. We both had their chef's salad and it was very tasty, large prtion and very affordable. Will be back on a weekend with the kids.

The Van Gaalen cheese farm is one of those places you get to know through word-of-mouth. It is close to Hartbeespoort Dam, and one easily misses the gate, as it is just around a corner in the road. Inside, there's a great shop which specialises in all kind of Dutch food, and especially Dutch cheeses. The prices are not cheap,...

This is a great place for a day out that is within a reasonable driving distance of Joburg. The play area is well equipped for children of all ages and the animals are well cared for. There is plenty of space for the little ones to run around and the resident dogs are child-friendly and lovely company.
A nice venue for some wine and cheese within 45 minutes of Pretoria. The skies of the highveld and green hills are the main attraction, and if the weather is good, the whole afternoon will pass in a glimpse. The gouda cheeses are appealing too. The beautiful environs could be home for a vineyard-- only missing the grapes and wine!...

Pretty venue for functions and weddings. Great spot to get a picnic basket and sit in...

The Van Gaalen Kaasmakerij is a great day out. I discovered if with fellow bikers out for a breakfast run, and have returned with family. The food is good, and there is a shop with a wide variety of Dutch and Indonesian treats. But the highlight of course is the cheeses. Most are made on the premises, but they have...

This is a stunning day out for couples, friends or family. The food is excellent. Shop filled with unusual food and other things to buy. You can get a picnic basket and blanket and go down to the river. Brilliant place to cycle, just not after heavy rains as the cycling track runs right next to the river and it...

We came across it by chance on our way back from Magalies Park. About 45 mins from the West Rand. Good variety of cheese, delicious mustards and well informed staff. There is a play area for children and a beautiful view over the mountains. It was very busy (Sunday early afternoon) but not noisy or crowded. My husband and I...

1...2hrs mtb trail suitable from beginner to ambitious rider. Fresh country air away from city hustle & bustle. Great food - come hungry
We attended the tour (which could have been an bit longer) and had a picnic by the river afterwards. Louis (the cheese-maker) was very helpful in answering all the additional questions we had about cheese making. The picnic was divine with loads of cheese (from their farm) and other goodies - really worth while to stroll down to the river...
