A nice climb, way up there...

A serious climb, do it first thing in the morning, too hot for any other time in the day. Bring Lots of water...Good climbing

The site is a very bare with little go see apart from the view. Which is better seen from the Monastery. The climb is easier than the path to the Monastery however and takes much less time.

Best view of the valley. Take PLENTY of water and be prepared for the steps, there are a lot of them and they seem to go on forever. The payoff is worth it!

If you have the energy and the time it is well worth climbing up to the high place of sacrifice. The views over Petra are great and the remains at the top give a clear picture of the rituals. It is also a very peaceful place to spend a while chillling.

I think the long walk deserve it. After the endless stairs you will get fascinating views and the chance to see or imagine the sacrifice rituals. If you plan it well in the day, you will be able to see a nice changing colors of the rocks.

you'll need around an hour long walking up the trenchs and the old rocky steps on the this mountain , you'll feel like you are one of those Nabateans about to witness a sacrificial event ,, until you arrive the top and see the site of the old alter and you'll notice the red painted arrows on the ground leading... I remember reading reviews here and talking to others who have done this trek before I did it and it gets mixed reviews. Some loved it but some said it's a tough walk and the views aren't great. I wholly disagree. This is completely worth it. I arrived into the Petra complex at 6am so started on this walk at... More

Brilliant.. A bit of a walk away from the Main Street and a bit of a scramble at times but well worth the effort in you have a reasonable degree of fitness and some adequate footwear. Some amazing views from the top.

Passing the shop at the Street of Facades I saw the stairs heading up the canyon and on checking the map noted it takes you to the High Place of Sacrifice. It is a tough climb, but they have a number of spots for rest stops. The view at the top is definitely worth the effort climbing up the canyon.... More

I climbed the steps to the high place of sacrifice on my second day at Petra, best to start as early as possible and not do the climbing in the hottest part of the day. Once up top you get marvellous views overlooking Petra that should not be missed, as others have said take the longer route down and make... More
