With hind sight, I would have made this my first climb of the day. Although the high place of sacrifice is for some underwhelming, the walk on of just a few metres, gives the most fantastic view out over all of Petra.

This is one of only a few places of sacrifice from the ancient world that exists. It is mostly a flat rock with some channeling around it. Not that much to see. But the concept of the place and the views are worth the hour hike up the stairs. (Think sky burials in Tibet). In the far distance you can... More

This was the last place i visited while there and was a bit tired after walking around for the previous 6 hours. This is another hike to the top of the canyon, it took a bit less than an hour but the top was almost empty. Only two or three other people up there. Found a rock to sit on... More

It is a steep hike and a lot of stairs but you're rewarded in the end with a fantastic view away from most of the crowds. The High Place of Sacrifice is a good area to eat a packed lunch while enjoying the quiet and taking in the view.

It is many stairs and a long way to hike, but it is worth it to see everything in Petra. All of the building are amazing.

If you want to enjoy a rather intimate place in Petra, then this is it. It is quite a walk upstairs to get there, but the stairs and the path itself are 2 thousand year old wonders. When you finally get there, you get a whole view of the valley with numerous palaces. One can detour a bit on the... More

I have to say that I was so excited when I finally made it up to the High Place of Sacrifice. It is a hellish climb, either the main way or the back way (I came up the back). But when you get to the top you are just so happy, though I may say I was a bit puzzled.... More

After the high place and on the trail back to the colonaid you will come to a T at the site of the Egyptian column and a Bedouin drink store. Take the base of the T and this will lead to the old crusader fortress. You can walk all the way to the top of this hill but after the... More

absolutely the best hike in Petra. You discover hidden tombs away from the main traffic and get to see the park in different angle.

If you like stairs you'll love this place! A stunning walk up through the rocks takes you to a dusty plateau. The obelisks are worth a lookbut you need to head for the crusader ruins and scrabble up the rock face to find the high place itself. Time it right and you'll have this magical place and its tremendous views... More
