This was the last hike we did in Petra and we found it to be the only hike that disappointed it. Yes the views are nice at the top but if you have done the other main hikes I don't think you need to do this one. We'd wished we'd skipped it so that we could have saved some energy.... More

The climb nearly killed me, but it was worth it. It is a fascinating place, as is all of Petra, complete with an older woman selling her trinkets at the seeming top of the world.

I agree with previous comments-- this trek, like many others in Petra, is best attempted if you are reasonably fit and OK with a decent climb. There's nothing too dangerous here, and skill isn't particularly required, but being somewhat able to manage a strenuous walk is necessary. The view--and your sense of fulfillment upon reaching the top-- are what makes... More

Considering the long hard climb, the end result is a fairly disappointing site with a so-so view. Do it only if you are athletic and have plenty of time. The only surprise was a local lady setting up a stall selling souvenirs right next to the High Place of Sacrifice.

You can see all the way to Wadi Musa. The views from up there are spectacular. Also go down towards the city centre to see the lion monument and some interesting tombs.

Having arrived on site at Petra at 7:00 on our second day, we made the High Place of Sacrifice our first stop. It was a hardish climb but there were wonderful views at each turn. We were virtually alone, apart from the local traders who were just setting up. The sacrificial site was interesting but the final 360 degree views... More

Tourist often miss this spot during their visit to Petra World Heritage Site. Although I can't understand that you will be tired, go ahead for an additional 300 steps to see one of the best views of the whole place. If necessary, divide your visit into two days to cover it all (I strongly advise you to do so -... More

Not nearly as long a hike as the trail to the Monastery but it can wear you out. It's totally worth it as you're treated to views of the rest of Petra as well as the surrounding area. If you want to take the back way down, make sure you know the trail.

We hiked with our 3 year old. Started from the point by the "Why Not Shop" on the left and went all the way up. It had a wonderful view! Afterwards, we went back down the loop and saw the Garden Tombs, Soldiers Tombs, Trecilinum and many other smaller ones on the way back. We came out of the way... More

Wonderful view of the whole city. Try going the outside way up with a guide - that way you avoid all the steps and the crowds. And you get to see the amazing irrigation system of ancient times.
