Do not miss the walk up the many stairs to the High Place of Sacrifice. It takes a while but it is worth it. When reaching the info sign, continue to the right up the hill (the path is not so easy to spot). There you find the altar and amazing views. But then continue further for even more breathtaking... The walk up to the High Place is worth every step. Make sure you take your time and have enough time to really explore the area.

There's a reason it's called the HIGH Place of Sacrifice, so climb early to enjoy the amazing views across bedouin cave dwellings and over 200 years of history without too much sweating in the heat. It is worth it and the trip back down gives you incredible views of the human ants exploring other parts of this World Heritage site.... More

Stupidly we went to this at midday and I don't recommend it. The climb is hard at times but soo good. At the top again, there is a lovely place to sit and take in the surroundings, plus some great tea. We went a different route back which took over an hour but again worth it for the views. Just... If you can make it to the top it is well worth it. Use a donkey for the day - it is worth it. Proper price for a day is about 50JD. Don't get ripped off!

With hind sight, I would have made this my first climb of the day. Although the high place of sacrifice is for some underwhelming, the walk on of just a few metres, gives the most fantastic view out over all of Petra.

the view is breathtaking. Don't try to explore it on foot. Get a donkey ride and you will be rewarded.

This is one of only a few places of sacrifice from the ancient world that exists. It is mostly a flat rock with some channeling around it. Not that much to see. But the concept of the place and the views are worth the hour hike up the stairs. (Think sky burials in Tibet). In the far distance you can... More

This was the last place i visited while there and was a bit tired after walking around for the previous 6 hours. This is another hike to the top of the canyon, it took a bit less than an hour but the top was almost empty. Only two or three other people up there. Found a rock to sit on... More

It is a steep hike and a lot of stairs but you're rewarded in the end with a fantastic view away from most of the crowds. The High Place of Sacrifice is a good area to eat a packed lunch while enjoying the quiet and taking in the view.
