An unforgettable place to visit, the walk down to the valley - along the ancient path at the base of a ravine, leads you to a suprise breathtaking view of the Treasury building as you come round the last turn. This surprise is added to by the guide distracting you just before you come round the turn. You would probably... more

This is one of the most amazing places that I have ever visited and unlike the last reviewer I thought that the working animals looked reasonably well cared for. Believe me I have seen far worse in Morrocco and Egypt!!! This place equals the impressiveness of the pyramids but because of the hidden away location makes it all the more... more

Such a shame, my husband and I had really been looking forward to this trip but it was totally ruined for us by the most appalling conditions that the horses are working in. Masses of fat and lazy tourists sitting on their backsides getting a lift through the siq by totally exhausted horses that are being thrashed up and down... more

I was recently undergoing a charity cycle from the Dead Sea to the Red Sea with 98 other women. We had a day of in the middle of our cycle and visited Petra. I have travelled extensively but I have never been so impressed or overwhelmed by anything I have seen before. The sheer size and exquisite carvings on many... more

when you finally reach the treasury you realise the walk was well worth it! the walk through the gorge is lengthy but fascinating with overhanging cliffs and strange rock formations. the treasury itself carved out of the red rock is amazing and the museum beyond it has many interesting artefacts. a good guide is an advantage and there are horse-drawn... more

I spent a day roaming around Petra, after riding to it on horseback w/ a group from the nearby motel. Some really great views from various spots; some of them required climbing some steep trails. The amount of time + work that creating Petra must have required boggles my mind. My best friend tricked me; we went to see "Indiana... more

A fascinating place. It's a 2 mile walk through the Siq, and a very dramatic first sight of the Treasury, this was, for me, the best part of exploring Petra. We went in Febuary and it was very cold, not something I really expected, so was not very well prepared. I advise a warm coat, hat and gloves... as the... more
