One of the two must see sites within Petra. If you have no time or energy to walk through the full site, this, I would say, would give you a pretty good idea of what the place is about...

One can see why this is one of the wonders of the world. Don't miss if you are in the middle east. From before Roman times , this community was technologically ahead of its time.

Ever since I saw the Indiana Jones movie featuring the Treasury, I have wanted to visit Petra. It is well worth the effort.

The Al Khazneh ("The Treasury"; is one of the temples in the ancient city of Petra in Jordan, a tomb carved into the cliff face and received a Hellenistic facade with pillars. Al Khazneh was originally built as a mausoleum crypt and at the beginning of the first century, during the reign of Aretas IV and probably like your own... More

Yes. One should walk to the site rather than ride the horse drawn carriages. The carriages go on break neck speed sometimes when the rider is hurrying to return for waiting passengers at the entrance. The ride will be bumpy to the point of scary and you can not enjoy the scenery. It is a good 2-3 hrs. Walk. Lots... More

We had a really helpful guide, but get there early and try and not notice the other early birds, quite magical

The Treasury is the perfect start to a city like Petra. It's got a great ornamental facade, with tall columns, various statues (headless, after the iconoclasm) and fantastic detail. I won't try and add to what others have already said better than what I could write. Just make sure you arrive early - at 7am I was the only one... More

Aside from the usual marvel about 'how did they do that' one has to be impressed by how durable this facade is!! After nearly 2000 years Al Khazneh still looks magnificent!! Pros: Great walk in through the Siq, impressive site at first glimpse, only the first part of a wondrous day in Petra, food and drink (and no shortage of... More

The long walk builds anticipation. It is built further by the glimpse through the end of the Siq until you emerge to see the Treasury in its full glory. You cannot go inside but the view from outside is stunning. You can see the bullet holes where the unfortunate damage was done in history by those thinking it had concealed... More

If you go to the city of Petra, the most important sight to see is the Treasury. That is where Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade was filmed. You enter the sight through a small rock crevice and you can see it through the crevice while you enter. It is huge, it is majestic, it is phenomenal and it is... More
