Qasr Azraq is well worth visiting if you have read "The Seven Pillars of Wisdom" or seen the movie "Lawrence of Arabia" as he actually used this fort during World War I. The most interesting feature is the massive stone doors, which were required because there was no wood available. Even the roof beams are made of stone.

Great fun! We hired a car in Madaba and decided to take a trip out to the Eastern Desert to visit some of the Desert Castles. Of all of them, I think Azraq was my favourite. Qasr Azraq ('the blue fortress') is a large fortress roughly 100 km (62 mi) east of Amman. It is an interesting place to explore, but I enjoyed Qasr/Quseir Amra and Qasr Karaneh alot more. At this castle, it is worth paying for a tour by the resident tour guide Nadal (you pay what you wish - like a tip). He is actually a blood relative of someone who fought with Lawrence of Arabia and is hugely passionate and knowledgable about the castle.
