It is well worth the time to go after visiting the cavern. The kids really enjoyed wading in the cold water during a miserably hot day. The dam and waterfall made for beautiful pictures. It will not take much time away from the rest of your vacation, so go visit and enjoy.

After touring the caverns, we went down to see the spring. It's a lovely, shaded area. The breeze blows down through the valley, off the COLD spring water, making even a 90+ degree day comfortable.

Don't miss Mirror Lake. Water is emerald green. Film on the caverns is interesting, too. Peaceful place to spend an afternoon. People were fishing and catching at the lake. We didn't go through the caverns but have been in the past. Amazing!

Some of the area was closed from the flooding problems. Still, a nice area for swimming, wading and picnics as well as hiking nature trails.

Took my 8.5 and 5 year old on the 1.5 hour tour. They had a blast! The tour guide, Megan, was very informative and took extra time to answer everyone's questions including my 5 year old's. Definitely will return.

I went on a field trip with my granddaughter that is in second grade. They got to go fishing and hiking. After that we went to the pavilion and had lunch. The kids got to run and play for the morning and afternoon. We grilled hot dogs for everyone. We even fixed them for the game and fish guys also.... More

The visitor center functions as a portal to the cavern tour ( with a fee charged for the only Nat'l Park Service cavern) that's about all. Decent cavern, but doesn't compare to Carlsbad (New Mexico/ Texas area) or Luray (Virginia, Shenandoah area.) The cavern is elaborately lit, trail is safe for most adults, but small kids may need to be... More

Nice paved path through the trees leading to the spring makes it a cool retreat during the heat of the day. There are great examples of wild flowers growing near the path.
