You can easily spend 2-3 days here. Petit Jean is located on a synclinal mountain (look that one up in your geological dictionary!) in Arkansas' River Valley province. It has just about anything you'd want for a family visit. While lodging is limited on the mountain, nearby Morrilton has a number of accommodations; camping is available in the park. Be... More

I am so glad I added this stop onto our Little Rock Trip from Florida. We were able to see such beautiful sights and explore such a beautiful lodge. The 95' Cedar Falls Waterfall is 2 miles R/T and you will need to leave yourself minimum 2 to 3 hours for the hike. It is a very rocky steep steep... More

You won't run out of things to do here! The hiking ranges from easy to moderately strenuous. Be sure to see Bear Cave, the Eye of the Needle, and Cedar Falls. It will take your breath away. The park is free and so clean. The rangers are the best and so very helpful. You won't want to leave.

Petit Jean State Park is a gorgeous state park, and was the first established in Arkansas. Its natural beauty is relaxing and breathtaking, including a special area with its infamous Cedar Falls. Only once in 2012 have I seen the falls come down to a trickle due to a drought. However, whenever drought is not an issue, the falls always... More

We stayed in Cabin 6 on Petit Jean Mountain. It is a stone and wood CCC one bedroom cabin with a perfect combination of rustic and nice. Private patio with BBQ overlooks Cedar Valley from the top of a cliff. Knotty pine paneling, fire place and a tiny kitchen. The lodge restaurant had good food and service. The sunset from... More

This beautiful park has long vistas stretching for miles across the Arkansas River. The campground is comfortable with restrooms and shade trees. We stayed in a tents only area. A beautiful stream wanders through the campground.

We went for the Hikes, Hugs and Hearts weekend Feb 14 - 16. There are a variety of hikes of various levels of difficulty - something for everyone. The cabins were clean and comfortable. Food at Mather Lodge ranged from "okay" to "very good". Note that they do not serve alcohol. Strangely enough, they don't permit BYOB either. However, it... More

Very natural trails, not a lot of fences and bariers to obstruct the natural beauty, but be sure to keep little close at hand. Beautiful lodge, newly renovated lodge with nice but expensive restaurant and rooms, cabins too. Lots of great overlooks, the have overlooks from very easy - just walk a few feet and there it is, to moderate... More

This is the finest state park we've ever visited. After driving to the top of the mountain to view Petite Jean's grave, we drove to the visitor's center where we received maps and advice on what trails to hike. After a wonderful two mile hike on the Cedar Creek Trail, we traveled to the lodge for a great lunch and... More
