We arrived in Butterworth by train. The ferry terminal was within walking distance from the railway station although it involved climbing up and down staircases. The good thing was that there was a free shuttle van service between the ferry terminal and railway station.

Can see all the ferries. Their name are pulau kapas, pulau angsa, and so on. Also from the pulau to the butterworth , not need to pay any fee. U can see other boats, ships along the journey. 30 - 40 min on the ferries.

Somehow, I don't think the Penang - Butterworth ferry is for tourists. I was pleasantly surprised to learn from my hotel that the ferry could take both passengers as well as vehicles and so I drove on with the family just to try it out. It is really cheap! 7 Ringgits for a passenger vehicle, never mind how many are... More

You cannot missed this place, as this is the main entrance to Penang Island from Main Land before the Penang Bridge was built. Now its still cater for all public transport users. Its also within walking distance from the Railway station.

The ferries have operated more than forty years. This used to be the main transportation carrying people and vehicles across the mainland andýPenang island. It is the only kind still in service. Since the construction of Penang Bridge less people is using it.

Another way to enjoy the pleasant sea breeze on your way either to or from Penang island from mainland, Butterworth without the traffic hassles. You only have to pay for one way which is great & cheaper than using the bridges.

Very efficient and clean.A bit of a walk along gangways and over the railway bridge to get to the ferry. Very cheap and you get a free return when you go back to Butterworth. Bus terminal is also at ferry terminal which is very handy but you may have to wait a little while for your bus depending on what... More

It is one of the attraction in Penang. You can reach Penang Island by using the bridge or using a ferry. Its a nice half and hour ride using the ferry. u can drove your car inside the ferry. Once the ferry start sailing u can exit your car and have the nice view of Penang Island from the ferry.

It was the only way to get to Penang Island, when I was just a younng boy. The Terminal was such a wonder. Today, it is just a place to get from A - B. However it still retains a certain charm. I would recommend an evening or sunset ride. The cost per person is RM1.20 and for cars RM7.70.... More
