Loved the ferry ride and so did our 8 year old. A great way to spend an hour or two. Even though we didn't do anything when we reached the mainland (we just... More

Runs on 24 hours service, with peak period up to 5-6 ferries operating, while past midnight only 1 ferry working. Ferries can host either 2 decks for cars and motorbikes and also those without them. Ferry fee is RM 7.70 for now for car and you only pay it one way from Butterworth port. Coming from Penang port, you do... More

One of the two ways that you can get in and out of Penang, the ferry service has been there much before the bridge was built. It ferries both people and vehicles and is a good way to see how the locals commute to and from the island for their daily lives. There variety of different people, cultures and backgrounds... More

All boat trips cost tourist an arm and a leg, not this one 1.2 m ringet, return, what's more it friendly to those not good on the water. It seems all buses go here and few minutes stroll takes you to the ferry with a view, as the passenger deck is the top one and you can see for miles.... More

the Penang Ferry, we love it, it gives you the feeling of long forgotten times when there were not so many cars - if any! it gives you a perfect view of the Penang coast line - if there is not too much haze! and it is cheap!

First took the ferry about 40 years ago (as a young teenager) during my first visit to Penang (ride cost RM0.10 cents then from Butterworth. This time, took the ferry to rekindle memories of that first ride. The terminal is a lot more modern though retaining the old look but safer now. It was free for the ride from the... More

One afternoon we took the ferry from mainland Penang to the island. We waited about 20 minutes to board the ferry and the trip was about 5-10 minutes long. It was a great way to see the new bridge and also the tourist side of Penang Island. Taking the bridge in the afternoon is much faster, but the ride was... More
