I visited this region already 3rd time in my life and always I can find new impressions. Toraja land is very interesting for us from Central Europe - not only for enchanting landscape, rice fields, friendly people, but mainly for specific culture, traditions, ceremonies - especially funeral ceremonies, what you can participate - it´s very intense experience. It is good... More

Tana Toraja has been on my list of Indonesian destinations for the two years I've lived in the capital. I finally had a chance to visit this past week, and WOW was it worth it! This was definitely the cultural high-light of my travels in this beautiful country. Much credit for that goes to the efforts and knowledge of our... More

Old Sulawesi: a traditional homestead with the high-prowed tongkonan house, looking out over rice paddies, and set under a towering limestone cliff. A fig tree high on the cliff and dropped roots to anchor itself on top of a giant limestone boulder at the base. The limestone was being broken up for building materials to construct new graves along the... More

Tanah Toraja is an absolute highlight of Indonesia. A unique culture that celebrates both life and death to the full, nestled in a spectacular landscape in the mountain uplands of South Sulawesi. It is a wonderful experience to spend a few days exploring this incredible part of the world. We travelled to and around Toraja with a local guide, Mr... More

There are quite a few places to visit in Toraja Land. If you come during the festivities seasons (twice a year: June/July and December), you will be able to see and experience the unique traditions. During off seasons, there may not be any traditional ceremony going on, but there are still plenty to see and experience. Spending 3-4 days here... More

Ma'dong village is one of the villages that have the most beautiful natural scenery in Toraja. Already since a few years ago, this village became a base camp for rafting. Located right at the foot of Mount Napo. Having a clear river and rice fields arranged beautifully. Beautiful natural conditions are very suitable for bicycle enthusiasts ekotourism or natural. Toraja... More

Off cruiseship for the day from Palapo, lovely winding drive up mountain rainforest road passing houses/villages clinging to roadside, Sunday, so families sitting outside enjoying rest. Our guide explained how the deceased is taken inside the family home's main room, in a sitting position, fed daily, after the body has been treated (allowed to dry) and dressed. It takes a... More

Staying in the budget hotel Pison for one week one of the highlights were 2 days "exploring" with a very knowledgable, polite and English speaking Tourguide. Loved the mountains, the markets, the traditional villages. Recommend : Rante, the guide and his driver. Both have done an excellent job. Thank you!

We stayed 2 days in Tana Toraja in Dec 2014. We can highly recommend Mr. Arru as a guide - very good English, very good knowledge about traditions, nice and helpful with a lot of humour. Everything was fine. Thanks for the great experience in this wonderful region! Andrea and Hari

I spent four amazing days in Tana Toraja from 31 December 2014 to 03 January 2015. An employee at Manggala Trans in Makassar recommended his friend, Arru, as a tour guide. Arru met me at Hotel Pison the (next) morning when I arrived in Rantepao. He brought his friend Piter with him as well; both guides were very proactive and... More
