Apart from the free museums (closed Mondays), the surrounding area is lovely and tranquil. It's nice to just relax on a stone bench, enjoying an ice cream, or contemplate away from the busy avenues. It's an easy, few blocks' walk from Bellas Artes metro station.

Hardly any new exhibitions poorly kept. Next to the natural science museum and next to parque los caobos, the ateneo and teatro teresa carreño. Should you have time to spare you could take a quick peek

There is a great permanent collection of contemporary and 19th century art that is surprising in its diversity. The quality of the art exceeds what I have seen in comparable institutions in BsAs and Mexico City. Many of the contemporary artists show the influence of the art of the early 20th century in Europe but none of it is copy-cat.... More
