We walked to Lago Torres from town. The walk is long but easy. To see glaciar at near distance, you have to struggle with wind but it worths.

It was a difficult walk up to the 'Laguna De Los Tres' you need to have good wet/wind weather gear! The weather changes so quickly and good trekking shoes helped so much! But absolutely worth is when you get to the top to see Mount Fitz Roy above you and the emerald lagoons!

All I will say is it is definitely worth going the distance up to Lago Torres at the base of Mt Fitz Roy because it is absolutely spectacular. It was the most amazing experience for me in all of my travels around South America. You have to walk up a steep hill which takes almost an hour, but by golly...

The hike from El Chalten is about 8.3 km (~5 miles), each way. Relatively easy. The views are amazing. Lago Torre is fed by the Glacier with the same name at the foothill of Cerro Torre peaks. One of the most spectacular combinations. Well worth the day!
