Visited here as part of a coach trip to Dumfries & Galloway, very glad we did! The gardens are a must visit in the area, not just for the lovely flora, but the house is a classic! The wildlife is abundant and varied too with Red Kites wheeling overhead, and many varieties of butterflies around the colourful flowers.

Threave Gardens (National Trust of Scotland) have a lovely cafe/restaurant to eat and relax after visiting the gardens. We were there in the morning and enjoyed beautiful home made scones still warm and offer different varieties for your pallet. Good selection of lunch choices from Quiche salad to baked potatoes , sandwiches etc. Excellent coffee and service by friendly staff.... More

The gardens are lovely but not really much to see until you get to the bird watching hut. This was great if your patient you will see Deer, Red Squirrels, Woodpeckers and a variety of other birds. The cafe was also very nice and not too over priced. The staff were very helpful and we will defiantly return next year.

Very nice place to visit. Gardens well worth a wander around and the guided tour of the house is interesting. Good scones in the cafe!

If you are interested in gardens then the visit will be worth while as they are superb. If you like looking at going to visit the house then you must phone first as all the tours are conducted and they are timed.

What a wonderful garden. To stroll around this garden is great There are smaller gardens in the large garden , ie, sunken gardens etc. The walled garden is great with flowers, vegetables and berries, also a greenhouse. There is a house too round but on our visit is was fully booked. Visit and you will not be disappointed.

We combined this visit to the house and gardens with the castle which is only a mile away you can walk between the two if you want. These gardens are stunning . There are beautifully kept and stocked with hundreds of plants and trees some very old indeed.I am sure each season would show some delights in this garden I... More

Threave Garden was our first purposeful stop since my last more thorough trip to Scotland quite some time ago. it's become for many a spot in which to first enjoy the native red squirrel, losing habitat as are so many species worldwide, and the unwise introduction of the Eastern American grey to the UK. We also have our own variety... More

Threave garden is a testament to the skills of the National Trust Gardeners. A series of tableaux as you wander from area to area and a magnificent venue for photographers. One slight criticism would be the limited choice in the cafe/ restaurant, but otherwise well worth spending several hours enjoying the varied mini gardens throughout the venue.

As dog owners we readily accept that we cannot take the dog everywhere; and so we had to take it in turns to visit the gardens rather than leave the dog in a hot car whilst we all visited together. The gardens are beautiful; the cafe is excellent; the views on the walks around the estate are stunning - but... More
