Floors Castle is the largest inhabited castle in Scotland, sporting 365 windows. The present occupants are the 10th Duke of Roxburghe and his family, whose photographs can be seen throughout the castle. These photographs give Floors a warm lived-in feeling. It was built in 1721 for the first Duke of Roxburghe and remodeled in 1837 by leading architect William Playfair.... More

I have visited Floors Castle a few time in the past but I must be getting "older" as I had completely forgotten about the stairs up to the entrance on the "ground" floor. As you go on through the Castle there are other fairly steep steps into other rooms and at the end you have a steep flight of stairs... More

I was disappointed to read about the issues you encountered whilst visiting Floors Castle. There is a lift for those who struggle moving between the two floors and you should have been made aware of this on arrival. As a result of your comments, I have asked all the guides to ensure they look out for those that are struggling... More

We visited Kelso towards the end of April and sadly Floors Castle was not open however we had lunch in the Terrace Cafe and it was excellent. The food was incredibly tasty, the bread wonderful and the service exemplary. We will be back when next in the Borders. Thank you. More

Frequently visit the plant centre as it is run by very knowledgeable and friendly, helpful management. Ask any question and you get detailed advice. The plant centre is beautifully laid out and has wonderful seasonal borders. It is stocked with locally sourced plants to thrive in the area. The coffee shop is very well done with high quality food. This house is into its 10th generation of the Roxburgh family. It is a family home, a major local employer and a working farm. The family also own and run a major local hotel and golf course so they are vital to the local economy. The two eateries and the garden centre are excellent and the professional guides working in...
