A visit to Rockingham Castle is well worth the effort. It may not look like a conventional castle with a huge keep and turrets etc but it most certainly has an amazing mediaeval style entrance worthy of any Robin Hood film ! Once inside the massive double tower gate you enter a gentler world. Lived in by the same family,... More

Lovely castle and grounds with excellent restaurant. Well worth a visit. The "wild garden" is perhaps a bit too wild and overgrown, but the formal gardens "elephant hedge" and castle are lovely. The restaurant is waitress service, but not too expensive, and the food is freshly prepared and high quality. Fabulous views from the castle ramparts and towers. Nearby village... More

Rockingham Castle is a fantastic place to visit. Went with my wifes 74 year old uncle. It is tradition that we take him somewhere special each year for his birthday. It was his choice to go as he is a fan of Dickens and there are several letters from Dickens to the owners of the castle on display. The castle... More

Minimum number I think is 20, met at 6 for wine or soft drink, with wonderful canapés. Guide explained the history of the buildings and family, and continued as we toured the house, all extremely interesting (the castle is still a family home so some parts are out of bounds) 7.45 in for candlelit meal, all cooked to perfection and... You can see the castle from some distance away, perched atop a hill overlooking the pretty village. When you get there, there is easy parking a short walk from the entrance. This is a beautiful home with all the trappings of a castle, situated with wonderful views across the countryside. Informative staff and fascinating furniture, décor and everything. Stunning gardens,... More

As the house is still a home, the access to the inside of the house is quite limited. However the garden tour is well worth hanging on for. The lady who showed us round was very informative and was just the type of person you would imagine had been showing visitors round for years. The rose garden was delicious when... More

I had been expecting something more of a cadtle like Warwick, but this is much more intimate and domestic. We went on a sunny day but it was quite quiet, and the lovely gardens were peaceful. We enjoyed icecream from the cafe. Well worth a visit.

I believe that this house represents "living history" unlike others that are frozen in time. Although it has a 900 year history, the Watson family has occupied the house for 450 years. As a result, we were able to view modifications made to the property to reflect the times. Although I am not a cook, I could sense the beauty... More

Spent a few very enjoyable hours last Sunday here. It is 900 years of wonderful history. Staff in each room were friendly and knowledgeable. If you can climb the spiral staircase (accessed through the gift shop) up to the tower there are wonderful views over 5 counties. Gardens are extensive with a large wild garden which is more like a... More

It was lovely to come back again to this castle. The tea room served a lovely slice of choclate cake. Despite the wet afternoon we explored the gardens after visiting the house. It has a lot of worldly features dating back hundreds of years. The are extensive grounds to explore and you can see for miles when you get up... More
