Saffron Walden should be proud of this museum; my son and I frequent it regularly. Recently we found some broken pottery in the drainage ditches at the bottom of the Common, and my son thought we should take it in for analysis! The staff took this enquiry seriously and it was sent to Cambridge to be identified. Two weeks later... More

Fab museum for children, so interactive. My two love it in there, age 3 and 5 years. Well worth a visit.

This is a lovely little museum that contains something for everyone - from Victorian dresses and furniture to geology and fossils, local history and Egyptian artefacts. I now know a lot more about the famous saffron from which this town gets its name! It's worth coming back to regularly as there's a large temporary exhibition room and they get curiosities... More

Plenty of curiosities and a huge range of items providing interest for small children and adults alike. Worth several visits. Nominal entrance fee for adults and free entry for children. Just a small stall of items for sale rather than the usual shop at the exit which was a welcome change.

Punches well above its it weight for a little rural market town museum. Lots and lots to do and see from lands near and far. My eight year old loves it, as do I.

It is only a small museum as museums go, but has a wide, and diverse range of items to see. Well laid out.

Located next to the old Castle -Museum Street Small FREE carpark The museum has a variety of objects, some related to Saffron Walden and the County of Essex, some from distant places. But I feel most people would find something to interest them. The Castle ruin is 20 feet away , seen in 2 minutes. The museum is worth a... More

A nice museum not anywhere near the sort of thing you'd see in London etc but worth a visit We spent the day in this charming little ton and the museum was one of the things we did on the day. Would recommend

The museum isn't vast, and it can be walked round in an hour. However if you spend time in each section there is much more than meets the eye. The collection is a real tour of the world, but the geology and Egyptian sections are my favourites. There are exhibitions which keep the content fresh. Look for the Anglo Saxon... More
