Marvellous place. Huge variety. Child-friendly. Great staff. The oldest purpose-built museum in the country.

I've been visiting this museum since I was very young and I don't think I'll ever get bored of it. It's so quaint, interesting and jam packed full of history. It may look small from the outside but it's well laid out and frankly quite impressive from the inside! I'm sure I'll continue to visit this little gem for many... More

Very nice and rich museum! I spend a really nice morning in this museum! I really recommend it! Moreover, it is not expensive at all. Thank you for your great welcome! I'll be back.

Saffron Walden should be proud of this museum; my son and I frequent it regularly. Recently we found some broken pottery in the drainage ditches at the bottom of the Common, and my son thought we should take it in for analysis! The staff took this enquiry seriously and it was sent to Cambridge to be identified. Two weeks later... More

Fab museum for children, so interactive. My two love it in there, age 3 and 5 years. Well worth a visit.

This is a lovely little museum that contains something for everyone - from Victorian dresses and furniture to geology and fossils, local history and Egyptian artefacts. I now know a lot more about the famous saffron from which this town gets its name! It's worth coming back to regularly as there's a large temporary exhibition room and they get curiosities... More

Plenty of curiosities and a huge range of items providing interest for small children and adults alike. Worth several visits. Nominal entrance fee for adults and free entry for children. Just a small stall of items for sale rather than the usual shop at the exit which was a welcome change.

Punches well above its it weight for a little rural market town museum. Lots and lots to do and see from lands near and far. My eight year old loves it, as do I.
