A First Class railtour steam visit to Switzerland. Met OK at St. Pancras at 07.30, standard premier class to Paris, First class on SNCF to Basel. Unfortunately, standard class thereafter to Wengen. 21.44 arrival in Wengen, but dinner was only soup and cold cuts. A very long tiring day, you have to carry your luggage between stations and platforms, so... More

I booked a day trip for my parents, which at £180 for the 2 of them took me a while to save up for. I asked for the details to be sent to my parents address as a surprise, however the information turned up at my house. Although their day started well, it ended quite badly. The steam train broke... Four of us went on this trip from York to Carlisle and back via the spectacular Settle Carlisle railway. Sadly due to restrictions imposed by Network Rail we were diesel hauled from York to Hellifield where exLMS 8F 48151 joined the train providing a spirited performance to Aisgill Summit. Stopping for water at Appleby gave an opportunity to stretch your... More

A really pleasurable experience and the carriages were decked out in the good old padded and comfortable seats as compared to the dreadful seats that we get on the more "modern" trains. We set off from London around 7.15 am and the electric engine that was hauling us really put or a fantastic turn of speed and we were soon... More

My wife and I arrived at Bristol Templemeads station at 07:30 for what was supposed to be an 08:04 departure - however, as explained in the previous review (by Roger C) our start was delayed for almost an hour because of industrial action by a third party; although no blame can be attached to The Rail Touring Co for this.... The day started poorly with a delay of almost 1hr to the departure from Bristol Temple Meads. To be fair to Railway Touring Company (RTC), this wasn't their fault. The steam loco (Nunney Castle) was 'trapped' in Bristol Barton Hill depot by a Cross Country Voyager, which had been stupidly parked in front of it, even though it wasn't due... More

Advised at the beginning of the year, I booked on as a 15th Birthday present with my mother. We boarded the train in Standard Class at London Victoria in good time with steam locomotive "Oliver Cromwell" on the front. The trip was practically within the on-time range with some small delays along the way to Seaford, with lovely scenery along... More
