Have been on a couple of these trips. The good points: - the steam locomotives, when running, are fantastic; the routes through the English and British countryside are wonderful. The bad points - overall management, administration and customer service by RTC are very, very poor. This results in far too many poor customer experiences, as evidenced by the number of... More

Joined the train at Crewe and immediately tucked into a fine full English breakfast with Buck's Fizz. We'd hardly finished when it was time for a tasty lunch. Luckily we had a short break wandering around Carlisle before getting back on board for the beautiful run south via Settle. More food was served of a very high standard. Seating was... More

As someone else has mentioned the route was changed at short notice but this did not mar the day in any way. We went as a birthday treat for my father (92) and aunt (80) and both thoroughly enjoyed the day rounded off by the presentation of a birthday cake by the catering team. A special thanks to Richard and... More

My sister, her two daughters and I travelled on The Scottish Lowlander from Preston on Saturday Sept. 27th. In the course of this trip our train was hauled by three different steam engines which were magnificently preserved. The weather was fine, the scenery throughout breathtaking and our seats comfortable. There is always a happy, friendly atmosphere on these trips and... More

The route was changed by Network Rail at the last minute and the alternative route was much better. From the moment we joined the train, the serving staff were on hand to serve the champagne and full british breakfast. It was only 0700 hrs but great. The staff continued to look after us all the long journey till we got... More

A First Class railtour steam visit to Switzerland. Met OK at St. Pancras at 07.30, standard premier class to Paris, First class on SNCF to Basel. Unfortunately, standard class thereafter to Wengen. 21.44 arrival in Wengen, but dinner was only soup and cold cuts. A very long tiring day, you have to carry your luggage between stations and platforms, so... More
