The close encounter with Dolphins and whales in Tenerife There are 28 species of Whales and Dolphins that either reside in or pass through Canarian waters. Pilot Whales and Bottlenose Dolphins are resident to the waters off the South West coast of Tenerife and enable the whale watching industry to all but guarantee sightings. Rough Toothed dolphins used to be resident nearer La Gomera before the fast ferries arrived and were frequently seen; they have now moved further around the island. Sperm whales reside between Tenerife and Gran Canaria.

We were recommended by other guests at our hotel to do the the dolphin and whale trip on the Royal Delfin catamaran based at Puerto Colon. We are so glad we did as it was a great day out. We booked the trip at the Paradise Park hotel reception at Los Cristianos where we were staying. It was 42 euros... More

56 euros each sold to us by our travel rep in hotel meeting so expected great things for this price! No real comments made by him so thought this would be good. How wrong we were! 2.5 hour coach journey. Each way! Leaving at 1130... Far too late! Pointless 20min pit stop at random gas station when nearly at location...... More

“Day light robbery!!! AVOID!” Puerto de la Cruz is 110 kms from Puerto Colon. We have various pick up point to attend, traffic conditions vary. We only do the “Pit Stop” when we have time, but for your convenience as there is not really anything to do where the boat is located. Yes we take pictures like so many other,... More

Also loads of dolphins swimming around the boat and riding the bow wave which was great to see. Cold drinks freely available and the... More

Booked this trip through our hotel and were given a pick up time of 11.50 so we sat for nearly an hour waiting and waiting, eventually we asked our hotel to phone to see where they were. They said they had a problem with the bus and wouldn't be coming but we could go another day, which we declined because... More

Too many people on the boat. The amount of kids that storm the underwater windows when the whales appear means you wont see anything underwater. The take you on a whale tour but only tell you about the hotels you can see from the boat. No info on the whales, why they are there or anything about them. The food... More

There are good points and bad points about this trip. The bad points were: My wife myself & 2 kids all were sea sick. The trip was quite rough. Food was basic but okay. After I went for a swim at the cove stop I did see some sewage floating near the boat. The good points were: Even though we... More
