Can only imagine that this was once a lovely place to sit on a warm day. Now a run down, dirty beach with a derelict restaurant and home to the homeless and their dogs. How on earth the council can let this happen in such a prominent tourist spot, I have no idea. Especially when the shell of the restaurant... More

Vagrants and dogs now inhabit the beach around the now disused Papagayo restaurant. The Council do have plans to improve yhis beach but in the meantime the situation has worsened. I have seen dogs being mistreated and any incidents should be reported. Nerja is a great town and we must hope that this is a temporary situation.

This used to be a great little spot just off from the Balcon. I would not advise going there with children or if you are of a nervous disposition. The problem is the Papagayo bar closed and now seems to be inhabited by vagrants. They have dogs which they allow to foul the beach so you cannot leave children unattended.... More

Potentially a wonderful venue.Until recently there was a restaurant / bar which served the visitors but it has been closed. The beach needs attention as dangerous rocks are close and have taken lives. There is no adequate monitoring now so give it a miss until the council have got their act together

We visited on a windy October day but this place was out of. the wind. The sea was rough with large waves but this made a spectacle.

This beach bar/restaurant is now closed/empty/derelict - would make a great crazy golf area!! Such a pity as it give the fabulous beach an air of neglect right in a main view from the Balcon.

Papayayo beach (Calahonda beach) has over the last few months become a place where you would not wish to visit particularly with children. The Papagayo restaurant has been allowed to become a commune for vagrants and their dogs and the filthy mess they have create on the beach and surrounding area is shocking.

This beach use to be my preferred in the area but now the cafe has closed, lots of the gypsies seem to have moved in and I felt really uncomfortable.

Busy , down steep steps. Sun beds if you get there early. Clean sand and lovely sea. No restaurant open thisyear... So harder to get drinks/ use the toilet.
