Renfe AVE trains Barcelona-Madrid - ridiculously expensive in the summer months!

I commute weekly from Barcelona to Madrid. The Renfe AVE tickets are overpriced in general, but a word of warning to summer travelers.. the prices increase in the summer! My tip... read more

Booked a train from Coimbra to Paris via Renfe - it was hours later - they claim they offer a 50% return but when I tried to claim it they claimed it was a force majeure that caused the train to be late and so no compensation was forthcoming. The trip was the worse I had ever experienced and I... More

My wife and I recently had some great experiences riding the train in Spain thanks to the Atendo service. Anyone who has ridden trains in Europe, knows the feeling when your platform isn't announced until 15 minutes before departure time and then you have to rush to the correct platform. Now imagine if you have reduced mobility what a challenge... More

The Renfe trains were great: on-time, clean, with many options. However, thinking we needed to book ahead of time, we booked our tickets on-line from the States before traveling to Spain. Even though our tickets were "flexible," once you are in Spain, if you want to make a change, it is impossible. So, just know that once you book your... More

My wife and I took Renfe train from Malaga to Cordoba for a day trip. Ran on time and was reasonably clean. That said, the online experience was terrible! I had to spend 20 minutes getting all the info onto the site, and when I fanlly got to the last point to pay, it kept bumping me, saying the phone... More

I commute weekly from Barcelona to Madrid. The Renfe AVE tickets are overpriced in general, but a word of warning to summer travelers.. the prices increase in the summer! My tip is to take the Vueling air connection instead, it's much cheaper, especially at late notice, and the travel time is the same (includ. getting to and from the airport... More

Travelled by RENFE from Algeciras to Ronda. The start of the journey provides excellent views of nesting storks on pylons, etc. Sit on the right for best views. Then passes through forested and mountainous area until emerging towards Ronda which is a must for a visit. The seats were OK but not friendly for anyone with back problems. I suffered... More

Bought a tourist plus flexible ticket. Website says use of club lounge at station is allowed however staff at club lounge insisted it was only for first class passengers. Got to train station early and no one at customer service was willing to change my ticket for a train that was leaving one hour earlier. All the customer service reps... More

We have recently travelled around Spain using trains. The booking process on their website was straight forward and we were able to book our tickets well in advance. The trains were very clean and comfortable - we travelled in first class and tourist class ( no real difference) and always left on time. The even have movies (provided you can... More

My partners and I planned a five-night stay in Córdoba, flying to Málaga and staying two nights there before proceeding to Córdoba. I had great difficulty trying to reserve train tickets on the RENFE website and instead used Loco2, who processed my order efficiently and sent PDF files of the tickets in the same way as airlines send boarding passes... We had a lovely ride to Rhonda and then were able to have lunch and proceed by train through the gorge at El Chorro and the lakes, it was a great day with beautiful views. The historical value, was that it was built by the British for the servicemen and their families to go into the mountains for a break.
