We ended up visiting Thingvellir three times during our stay, First Fissure Snorkelling in Lake Silfra, then to see the Northern lights and finally as part of the Golden Circle tour. The park is incredibly beautiful, with mountains, canyons, waterfalls, lakes and much more. The highlight of our visits to Thingvellir was definately fissure snorkelling. The water looks just like... more

Oct. 19, 2009--We visited Thingvilir this week. It was eye-opening to see where the European tectonic plate and the North American plate are being formed and to realize that there had been more than 400 earthquakes the week before ( all 3.2 on the Richter scale or less). At this time of the year it was very cold in the... more

The scenery here is just spectacular. Most trips on the Golden Circle will include a stop here and you should definitely take advantage. Both the history and beauty of the place will impress you. The land formations are very jagged because of the continental shelf, but there are flat walking paths in most places. The river running through is unbelievably... more

I just arrived from my trip to Iceland! I and my boyfriend decided, as everyone does, to take a tour in the golden circle. After searching a lot in the internet we found the perfect tour! Golden circle with snorkeling in the silfra crack! It was something amazing! There are no words to describe that! I can say that we... more

My husband and I are normally Pacific & Caribbean divers, but decided to dive in Silfra with ScubaIceland. It was absolutely beautiful - totally worth it! Even though we dove during December with only a couple hours of sunlight, it was actually brighter under water, than on top. The Silfra's blue lagoon was clearer than an swimming pool!! We loved... more

I drove up from Reykjavik on my own near end of March (2006). Cold and windy but sunny and nothing a few layers could not handle. The landscape is unique and stark. Good to drive around and see various spots and find trailheads... strongly recommend walking up to the Oxara falls where the river plunges over the walls of the... more

I just came back from Iceland after a fantastic 2 1/2 days trip (through Icelandair's winter packages). The reason of the trip was for diving in Silfra, the 'crack' between the European and American tectonic plates. Iceland is the only place where the division of the plates are visible on land, since its mostly underwater throughout the Atlantic Ocean. I... more

In the middle of most W European countries the park would be outstanding. Its unspolit wilderness makes good rambling country and its geological significance, apparent in the knife edge ridges makes it interesting. However set in Iceland its popularity is in large measure due to its accessibility from the capital. In terms of landscape compared with the contorted tundra of... more

I visited Iceland at the end of July. Itw as all an amazing trip but perhaps the most beautiful of all the places was Pingvellir national park. A short walk takes you through the park and leags to sights of distant waterfalls and woodland like areas with a small set of white houses and a little church comleting the scene.... more
