The temperature of the steam varies depending on the temperature of the hot spring and weather, usually between 40°C (104°F) and 50°C (122°F). Humidity is very high in the steam room cabins. Grids in the floor of the steam rooms allow guests to hear and smell the boiling natural hot spring underneath, creating a natural and totally unique experience.Next to the steam room is YLUR, a Finnish-style sauna. The temperature is between 80°C (176°F) and 90°C (194°F), with a lower humidity than the steam room having a big window facing the lake of Laugarvatn. LAUGA, SÆLA, and VISKA are interconnected outdoor mineral baths that vary in depth, size and temperature. Some areas are suitable for relaxation and others offer space for movement and playfull moments. Stone artwork made by Icelandic artist, Erla Thórarinsdóttir, enhance each visitor’s experience. VISKA, the hot tub, is built at a slightly higher level than the other baths, providing a panoramic view of the beautiful surroundings while the healthy water nourishes both body and soul.Completing the ensemble are VATNIÐ and STRÖNDIN — the lake and the beach. Visitors will reach VATNIÐ through a gate. STRÖNDIN has warm black sand, which has been shown to be beneficial for those suffering from arthritis and other joint illnesses. VATNIÐ provides an opportunity to cool down between visits to GUFAN and YLUR, a temperature shift that is both healthy and strengthening « less

We had a great evening bath at the Fontana, the facilities are great - loved the concrete decor and cleanliness. The single Tubs aren't huge but have different temperature and in case you might have warmer tempertures you could enjoy a dip into the lake. We enjoyed staying in the warm water and the heat of the sauna's that are... More

It is a nice place to spend an hour but most pools are quite shallow and not as hot as other hot baths (32-24). Well worth a visit but not anywhere near as nice as the baths in Myvatn.

Fontana is a great place to relax! I just got off the plane the day before and was suffering from jet lag. It's really very nice to stay in the hot spring and think about nothing! There are several springs with difference temperature that you can choose. People there are very friendly. I had a great time there and I... More

We've just visited in early may and although we really enjoyed our visit, we were really disappointed to find a new pool being built, which means the view over the lake from most of the pools is now ruined by builders rubble. Once the new pool is built, this will be a great place to visit, especially after a long... More

It was one of the most rejuvenating and beautiful places I have visited so far. Bathing in naturally warm water, right besides a huge lake is an amazing experience. One can also pre-order special bread, made with the geothermal warmth in the earth, no doubt it tastes real yum. They have different pools to suit your needs in terms of... More

It was great to soak in the spa at Fontana after being jet lagged. This place is a nice little attraction. Geothermal springs and a steam room/sauna. You can even request a fresh loaf of bread baked underground. Great way to spend the day looking out at the water and forgetting about it all for a while.

We had an amazing time celebrating our son's first birthday at Fontana. We are well traveled and are not fond of touristy destinations. I stumbled upon Fontana and it was the perfect hidden gem in Iceland. Small, quiet, and secluded. The views were amazing of the lake and snow covered mountains from the pools. The cafe at Fontana was a... More

My classmates and I from Boston recently visited Iceland and we loved the Fontana! It was an amazing place to relax and unwind from the school year. We loved the spa, the workers and we even got to taste authentic Icelandic bread made from the earth - what a wonderful treat!

The hot tub overlooking the lake is warm and delightful. You have to make a run for it from the dressing rooms, though!! An adventure in the cold! Saunas, both wet and dry, were clean and nicely maintained. Locals were present when we were there... doesn't seem like a tourist trap.
