The temperature of the steam varies depending on the temperature of the hot spring and weather, usually between 40°C (104°F) and 50°C (122°F). Humidity is very high in the steam room cabins. Grids in the floor of the steam rooms allow guests to hear and smell the boiling natural hot spring underneath, creating a natural and totally unique experience.Next to the steam room is YLUR, a Finnish-style sauna. The temperature is between 80°C (176°F) and 90°C (194°F), with a lower humidity than the steam room having a big window facing the lake of Laugarvatn. LAUGA, SÆLA, and VISKA are interconnected outdoor mineral baths that vary in depth, size and temperature. Some areas are suitable for relaxation and others offer space for movement and playfull moments. Stone artwork made by Icelandic artist, Erla Thórarinsdóttir, enhance each visitor’s experience. VISKA, the hot tub, is built at a slightly higher level than the other baths, providing a panoramic view of the beautiful surroundings while the healthy water nourishes both body and soul.Completing the ensemble are VATNIÐ and STRÖNDIN — the lake and the beach. Visitors will reach VATNIÐ through a gate. STRÖNDIN has warm black sand, which has been shown to be beneficial for those suffering from arthritis and other joint illnesses. VATNIÐ provides an opportunity to cool down between visits to GUFAN and YLUR, a temperature shift that is both healthy and strengthening « less

The buffet may be expensive, but after a long sauna/sea/thermal pool soak it's the best meal ever. Especially the local birch geothermal smoked salmon (which you can buy at the supermarket up the road for very little money). Simply amazing.

A visit to Laugarvatn Fontana is must, the spa uses the natural geothermal heat for the sauna and for the warm pools. It's a unique experience to sit in the Sauna and listen to the boiling hot spring under you. The facilities are very clean and all amenities are top notch. Service is great with bar service and quality small... More

Me and my wife came here when it was raining pretty hard. We were the only ones in the pools, so the peacefulness was definitely pretty nice. I just thought it was a bit pricey for a small little pool. I mean the facilities were great but in my mind it was just a golden circle money grab..

Dear Kyle M Thanks for sharing your comment with us and stopping by on our rainy day. Usually on the rainy days the locals are the only ones enjoying the hot and nurturing geothermal baths. You truly stepped in the local style. Peacefulness and tranquility is without a doubt one of the experiences our guests encounter. May the memories of... More

We decided to something else this time, and going to The Fontana Spa was magical. The staff there is great and the experience is a complete rebirth. Make sure to dip in the cold water and warm up in the sauna!

Dear Anna S Thanks for taking the time to send us your feedback. The elements of hot and cold are believed by the locals to strengthen our immune system and the baths offer various temperature of baths, steam, sauna and the endless shallow lake everyone can overlook while soaking in the warm baths. We hope you stay in your element,... More

quite small, but cosy and nicely made. We did enjoy our stay there. The place has a nice design and you can experience the hot pot Tradition of Iceland very well there. Combine it with a visit to Restaurant Lindin :-)

Dear Jasmin_Stroppel Thanks for taking the time to write us your feedback. We have been a bathing place of the nation since the settlement of Iceland, the facilities have since that time developed together with the bathing culture of the nation. Today healthy pure food is a vital part of any rejuvenation of the open air bathing. We have since... More

:::: I'm going to date an Icelandic hot spring. Marry it. And then cheat on it with another Icelandic hot spring. :::: This was my mantra after experiencing Iceland's national treasures: thermal pools/hot springs. I was first indoctrinated into this aquatic culture with, of course, The Blue Lagoon. Say what you will about the "BL", but we had a GREAT... More

We had a wonderful time at Fontana. It was a beautiful day and it added to the relaxation as we sat outside in the various hot tubs. There are 4 pools all varying degrees of heated water. There are saunas and steam rooms. The scenery from all of the pools was stunning. The change rooms are very modern and clean.... More

Rather than join the masses queueing at the Blue Lagoon, why not go here instead? This is a small spa, with a range of heated pools and is on the edge of a beautiful lake (where the brave also swim). There is a wonderful hot pool heated direct from the underground hot water in which you can lounge on huge... More

Dear Edinegg Thanks for your feedback, we are happy to learn that you had a good time with us. The temperature in the steam rooms cannot be controlled by other means than by opening and closing the doors and windows of the steam cabin. You could pay attention to the locals, opening up the doors widely, allowing pressure and steam... More

New, delicate, very nice design, not crowded. Lay next to Laugarvatn lake where hot springs heat the beach right next to the spa. NO swimming for swimming (you would swim your laps in the lake), but 4-5 pools of different temperatures and steam baths. You enter the coolest (body temperature) and go from there to the warmer one. Step by... More

Dear karinmkeane Thanks for taking the time to write us your comment on our services. It was a long process of the locals of Laugarvatn to decide on how they would like their new home for their geothermal baths to turn out. The outcome are the facilities at Laugarvatn Fontana which you visited. The decision was from the beginning it... More

It was so relaxing in the hot water (different pools of 32 to 40 degrees). Try the lake access where you also can find natural hot springs.

Dear Elsaesserin Thanks for taking the time to write us your feedback. Thanks also to encourage other foreign guests to enter the beautiful yet shallow cold lake which at places can have a boiling hot spot!
