simply Amazing! follow the path and enjoy what the nature can do. the area has been created in the 1980s but it seems it was yesterday... The walk is easy, even for young children, but the part between the parking area and the lava fields is a little bit monotonous. this is a perfect scenery for photographers of the search... More

It is quite a walk from the parking area, but the route up to the lava fields is fairly flat. It rises from there, but there are... More

If you go, make sure to walk all around the site. One part with mini-mountains of black lava has steam rising up- it really does look otherworldly More

We were a little unsure pulling in then passing the power station, I wasn't sure if we were supposed to be there. But take the road all the way to the end and walk around the crater- go all the way around you can't see until you get there but you walk down in between two crates and would miss... More

Active volcanic area with Viti explosion crater and Power plant (closed off season). The walk is stunning with the view of the lava stream, walking around mud pools and amongst the steam vents. The drive in passes a toliet and working shower (plumbed intto the ground!) makes for a funny photo! More

Krafla Lava Fields (free) are not far from Myvatin Lake area. - heading east on the 1, take a left onto the 863. The walk here is really worth it,make sure you walk all the way round both loops as they are very different. Took us about 2 hours. Amazing experience walking over the lava fields, and seeing the steam... More
