West of Phoenix is a small town that reminds you of the 19th century. Surrounded in desert hills, many saguaro cactus, and so much to do! The Ghost tour is interesting, and the Vulture Mountain trail is just right - what a view from the top. You can drive by the old gold mine not sure if tours available now.... More

A short road trip from Phoenix and a lovely hike through beautiful desert to a saddle with a great view. Crave an extra push of exertion? Hike the last 100+ feet to the top. Nicely maintained trail.

This is a great hike to do close to Phoenix. Trail starts fairly level then the last 45 minutes rises 1000 ft in elevation. The views at the top are amazing. Along the trail watch for the increase in animal activity as you climb out of the valley to the top of the peak. Take a lunch and enjoy it... More

Just south of Wickenberg AZ. Easy hike to the top and well worth the effort as the vista is spectacular from up there. Take water with you as depending on the time of year it can get hot !

A very nice hike along the desert floor before a rapid rise to the "saddle" of Vulture Peak. You can scramble higher and go all the way up, if you are up to it. Great views of the surrounding areas, and plenty of saguaros to gawk at.

This is a great hike! Plenty of cool cacti, as you approach the peak. With each switchback along the slope to the summit you're rewarded with another stunning perspective on the desert landscape. Most hikers can reach the saddle (intermediate level). The last bit to the summit is a full hands-on rock climb in places. Not terribly difficult but not... More

Spent the afternoon driving and hiking in the area. Great desert vistas. Beautiful saguaros. Spring wild flowers were an added touch. A lot plenty of time; driving is slow due to the condition of the road.

I was worried that the adjacent off-road-vehicle trail would be noisy, but that proved not to be the case. We visited in March and the brittle bush was very pretty. We only went to the saddle, and the last 1/4 mile is quite steep, but the views were worth the effort.

Good desert hiking trail. The beginning is easy, and runs parallel to a four wheel drive trail (but not right next to it), and crosses the hiking trail in several places. Going back along the four wheel drive trail makes a good alternative route. After hiking in for about an hour it gets steeper, and the last 45 minutes to the... More
