Desert Riparian Treasure

We try to get here at least once a year. The trails are lovely and easy---wonderful wildlife and bird sightings, a very special place.

This river valley full of cottonwood and mesquite trees was an interesting counterpoint to the surrounding desert landscape. Quiet and peaceful, the trail were relatively easy walking, though most are not wheelchair accessible.

We came here after spending the morning at the Vulture Mines south and west of Wickenburg. There are many trails to follow, some even and pretty flat and others are up a rather steep incline but you get a real feel for the power of water when it is on the move. Here one sees debris piled up on the... More

This is a really pleasant place to visit. Serious birders really like it and you can see lots of birds and other interesting small wildlife if you are observant. It's just a pleasant place to spend some time.

For years we have stopped at the preserve as a rest stop before or after the stretch of desert west of Phoenix on our way to Prescott or Vegas. It is a peaceful shaded place for a picnic or a stroll and walk our puppy. I'm not a birder, but wish I were when we're here. We have occasionally noticed... More

I have visited Hassayampa River Preserve several times. Most people like to visit during bird migrations, but I love the quiet, peace and coolness in summer and the crisp freshness of late fall. Seasons in the desert get confusing, but a short walk, longer hike or even a challenging climb can be squeezed in a half-day visit in any season.... More

I was very disappointed. We drove from Iowa to visit Wickenburg, the town I was born in 42 years ago. I wanted to experience all the memories I had when I lived there. The Hassayampa River Preserve was closed in late August.

Many informative trail markings, lovely scenery, but the best part is that you get under the shade and walk beside still waters. It restores your soul.

I love this place to go on a walk with friends or just alone to think and do some bird watching or just sit and watch the wildlife and the people and families enjoying the outdoors. They have a large variety of simple activities and a small "museum" of animals. It is great for families and especially for any eco... More
