If you visit Drake Bay, be sure to hike along the coast trail to Rio Claro. Blow the whistle for Ricardo or his helper to come across the river and pick you up.. and then take the tour up the river! the hike along the coast is spectacular, and the river trip is a treat. A boat from our hotel... More

This was the best tour we did in Costa Rica. Ricardo paddled us up the Rio Claro River and we swam back. It was a very hot day and the swim through the clear, cool water was so refreshing. Ricardo was our personal photographer along the way, taking photos of us cliff jumping and laughing as we swam down the... More

We were staying at Las Caletas and had our boat drop us off at a beach 15 minute walk to Rio Claro Day Tours. This was the BEST experience of our entire Costa Rica trip. We saw lots of monkeys on our short walk and then stumbled upon Ricardo's river tour operation nestled in near the beach. Our party took... More

I am a 13 year old boy. My family and I decided to take a 2 hour tour with Ricardo, and it was one of the best experiences of our lives. To start off, he had a bucket full of 30 minute old baby turtles, and he let us hold them. He gave us great discounts. We kayaked down the... More

Special place, special people. You meet them after 3 hours walk across beaches. We took a 2 hour boat trip. Saw monkeys, a sleeping nighthawk, a big spider, a beautiful snake and a lovely hidden waterfall. A friendly guy called Tango gave us the choice to float back down the river. Again a special experience. A hidden juwel in the... More

We stayed at Copa del Arbol, about an hour's walk along the gorgeous coastal trail from the Rio Claro. Luckily, we read about Ricardo's boat tours and the lodge packed us a lunch for our day hike. We were paddled for about an hour up a calm river with a profusion of beautiful trees and vines growing along the high... More

Went with a guide who rowed the boat and saw some birds. Not too difficult climb to waterfall and then can swim in the pool below. Also got to swim back along side the boat with the flow of the water and that was fun. Ricardo was busy so we didn't get to talk about turtles, which was too bad.... More

We stayed in Drake Bay at a house run by Emilio of the Drake Vista Hotel. Along with other tours, Emilio suggested a visit to Ricardo - whose mission to preserve and nurture the local turtle population is legendary, having released more than 7,000 babies to the ocean so far. As we had a 4WD, we drove to Playa Rincon,... More

We stayed at the Copa de Arbol lodge about two miles down the coast toward Drake Bay. We took a walk on the hiking path to the Rio Claro. Ricardo "The Turtle Man" was just finishing another tour and was available to take my wife and me up the river. I think that there should be such a beautiful clear... More

We were staying a few KM from here at the Copa de Arbol hotel and decided to hike down to the nearby beach and go snorkelling in the reefs there one day. En route we passed the mouth of the Rio Claro, a lush jungle esutuary that cut through the sands of the beach. There was a tour operator here... More
