I went on a two hour trail ride while on a family trip in Scottsdale. I would recommend going on a one hour trail ride instead. The scenery didn't change much, there were no elevations or descents, the horses walked pretty slow, there was no water crossing of any kind. I have been on a different trail ride in Scottsdale... We were so thrilled with the staff of MacDonald's Ranch, where we arranged a private trail ride for our daughter, age 7. It was the highlight of our vacation! Very well done, educational and informative, though I do worry that my daughter wants to be a trail guide now! And, the petting zoo and ranch were fun for my 4... More

On our business/anniversary vacation we scheduled many activities. I wanted to go riding & was pleased to find this place. It was the ONLY place that would allow trotting & cantering (depending on experience level). Others do only trail rides on rocky terrain where you will only walk. Here we scheduled a private ride for 1 hour. Our guide was... More

We went on their sunset/moonrise Valentines ride and really enjoyed it! We arrived a little too early, but they were happy to show us around the petty zoo, and faux western city set up. (all free) The woman feeding the "zoo" animals was very friendly and told us about the animals (goats, sheep, donkeys, pigs...) individually. You could tell she... More

Over the years we have attended several of the annual cookouts at MacDonald's Ranch usually held in September or early October by the Greater Pinnacle Peak Association, ScenicDrive.org & sponsored by MacDonald’s Ranch in North Scottsdale. The Great Western Cookout Adventure is also a preservation event that benefits Scenic Drive and the Local Environment. THE Great Western Cookout Adventure is... More

went horseback riding for an hour ~~ I believe it was only $40 per person. Nice guide. animals were nice and very sightseeing. My guide was not only nice, but funny, helpful, calm, and full of awesome fun facts. You really feel like a friend, not just another customer, which really made a good impression on me. There's no way... More

I took the 2 hour private trail ride, Rusty was my wrangler, he was really knowledgeable both about horses and the desert. My horse Kidd was the perfect gentleman and I felt very safe riding him. The scenery was beautiful with views to the McDowell's! I guess my only disappointment was we were on well worn trails, that I'm sure... More

Great place to bring the kids! Pieing zoo was fun for them and it was free as well. Lots of horses for you to interact with, and lots of picture opportunities as well. We will be back to check out the horseback riding and other events that they have to offer when we have more time.

We took a 90-minute horseback ride for less than $30 a person using the Travelzoo Deal! Staff, horses, equipment, and safety were all excellent. We enjoyed the Sonoran Desert views, flora and fauna from the saddle. Good place for new riders. Tip: Go early during summer months to avoid the heat. We started at 8am and it was already very... Initially kids didn’t want to go because it was their first time on the horse, but afterwards they said it was fun. Easy pace, through Ranch’s desert grounds. If you go in the summer, do the mornings ride; it gets really hot on the horse.
