Great small shops for local products, picturesque lake, beautiful surrounding scenery -- could use more investment in the area and variety of gastronomy/restaurants, but surely it's only a matter of time!

If we had to do it again, we would only have driven the 7 lakes road at Villa Angostura (spelling?) as the road becomes really bad and the town of San Martin is just okay if it is not ski season.

We traveled there from Bariloche and spent the night in a hosteria there. We were very impressed with the town and felt it a bit more upscale and smaller than Bariloche. We were able to take a nice hike the next day in which we were able to look down on the town. Getting there was an adventure but well...

This is a nice neat village, much smaller than Bariloche. The surroundings are stunning, and the Lacar lake and its shore are really nice. Shopping options are limited and I couldn't find many restaurants worth going. There are many good hotel options though.

The town is great to walk around. Beautiful timber used everywhere. A little touristy perhaps but the foresight to keep a limit on the height of the buildings has helped maintain the appeal of town. Lovely park in the centre of town

When you imagine a charmy Patagonian town, good for walking, with nice houses, lake view, small shops and nice restaurants, you are picture a place like San Martin de Los Andes. Also its a better base to explore vulcans and it has its own ski mountain, Cerro Chapelco.

My first and lasting impression of San Martín de los Andes is of a place the very rich made for themselves so they could avoid mixing with the crowds in Bariloche - if they said they went skiing in Bariloche, people could think they had paid their trip in monthly installments. If they say "San Martin", you're sure they went...

This little town is like so many other towns all over the touristy areas, Bariloche, Angustura. Its built to get your tourist dollars, and alot of the places are over priced. Search the magazines ABcsur, mecadolibra and the local sotres before you pay for any of the over priced cabanas. We paid 280 our first night , then found abcsur...
