Yes, it's similar to Bryce or Zion Canyons, but it's really different. Using standard viewpoints (there are 5 stopovers here) you can see much more from geology than in USA, but also it's less dramatic and less spectacular. What is very important, you can see a geology of the whole triadic period here, which us an unique feature in a... More

Excellent little tour. It has been about a week since we went, so I don't remember the actual price, but it was really reasonable. Basically, tours leave every hour (or so) from the park entrance and you drive in your own car to a serious of stops where the tour leader gives a description on the sites (in Spanish). We... More

Comparable to Bryce Canyon or Zion, Parque Provincial Ischigualasto (aka Valley of the Moon) has a wealth of fossils from the Triassic period, some 180 millions years old. It is only possible to visit the park by joining a car tour. A convoy of cars follows a guide on a gravel road through the park on a circuit that takes... More

We tried to go on the cheap so hot a bus to valle fertil rather than San juan. There is little to inspire in San juan! Tour operators in valle fertil which very much feels off the tourist trail. Anyway the whole trip was worth it but I can't work out if I'm awe inspired or just a little underwhelmed.... More

Come late in the afternoon. My time here was to short. You really need your own transport. But I did like after a small hike to get some coffee but keep in mind the coffee comes with sucar.

Worth the drive to the outback of Argentina. If you're driving through San Augustin del Valle Fertil, be aware that although there is a gas station there, we passed through the town twice, and both times there was no gas. If you're going south through SADVF, you can probably find gas at the pueblo Astica about 40km south. It is... More

My wife and I, and friends from Denmark were doing a road trip during the holidays in 2011 and we chose to visit Ischigualasto National Park. It was my 2. visit, and absolutely worth another visit. Before you leave your accomodation to go to the area, or if you come directly from another area, make sure that your tank is... More

Despite the 10-hour round trip drive from Mendoza, plus a night stopover, to get to this place, we made it fit into our tight schedule and are glad we did. This was one of those places you visit and reminisce longingly about for many moons later. We hired a private guide to take us (from Valle Fertil) through the park... More
