Fifteen ago the antique shops in San Telmo were jammed with wonderful antiques of enormous diversity and quality at incredible prices in comparison to New York, Paris and London. Today they are filled with very few genuine antiques and those of a mediocre quality at best at ridiculous prices. It has become more of a sad reincarnation of Portobell Road... more

Everything else already written about the Market is great info. This street really fills up on Sunday around 2. Throngs of people walking down the endless Defensia Street shopping their hearts out. We ate at the DES NIVEL At Independencia in San Telmo. The place was packed and there was a 20 minute wait. We decided to do a TAKE... more

San Telmo ("St. Pedro González Telmo") is one of the oldest barrios (neighbourhoods) of Buenos Aires, Argentina and also one of the best preserved areas of that constantly changing Argentine metropolis and is characterized with a number of colonial buildings. What's not to love about the San Telmo fair every Sunday. You don't have to love antiques, old junk, and street fair booths to have a good time, but it helps. The real magic is the real people who walk the cobbled streets, laugh with the street performers, watch the tango dancers, and listen to buskers and the street performers.... more
