This is a great place to just get lost in time. Amazing monuments that seem to defy time. Some at least. Others in a sad stage of decay. More

Some lovely cement sculptures here.. a few better in Bronze ( don't forget to swipe the dog's nose for luck ). Evita's Mausoleum is Plebean, as was her family ( Duarte ), this is not to say it is not nice, not suitable, perhaps for a First Lady. As a cemetery Buff, above ground burials ( i.e. Mausoleums ) are... More

Come on, if you are in BA, this is at the top of your list. The visual impact of this historically significant cemetery is unbelievable. The final resting spot of Eva Peron is poignant and moving. More

You must see it to believe it and don't forget to bring your camera! If you can't find Evita Peron's tomb, ask a guard or touristo with a map. Makes for a fun hour or two of strolling. If you can't get to Mercado San Telmo on Sunday for gift shopping, Feria Artesanal, right outside the cementerio gates is fabulous.... More

Walk among the living dead, visiting Recoleta is something you won't regret. The place around the cemetery (the recoleta area) is really nice, especially on Sundays when everyone heads our for a picnic or just hanging around. More

Being from the US, I have never really seen anything like this. It seemed weird to be amazed walking among the dead, but the tombs were incredible. See Evita's, but see more too. More

The monks of the Order of the Recoletos arrived in this area, then the outskirts of Buenos Aires, in the early eighteenth century. The cemetery is built around their convent and a church, Our Lady of Pilar More

Recoleta is truly unique--well, almost so as there are a few other similar collections of mausoleums and tombs scattered around the world. The sheer size of the cemetery, embedded in the middle of B.A. as it is, is impressive and Recoleta has a decided creep factor for those (my wife) uncomfortable with such ostentatious displays of the honored dead. Evita's... More
