Such lovely service from the owner of this super little wine shop in San Telmo. It has an excellent selection of Malbec and other wines and is a really nice, non-intimidating environment in which to choose a bottle.

Juan is selling not the common wines you'll find in supermaket. He has some very fine wines from some small bodega that are worth to buy, colome, el porvenir, finca decero, raffy...

I'm not sure the last time anyone went here but I went today in August 2014 and there is no more wine tasting and no tango. Without that it is a very average wine shop. And when the disappointment of that wears off, there aren't many viable alternatives nearby. Don't be fooled like we were!

My husband and I were looking for several bottles of wine. The owner, who spoke very good English, was very knowledgable, honest and patient. He knew which wines were only available in Argentina and which wines we could get back home in Canada. He also did not pressure us to spend more than what we were comfortable with (he even... More

The store is full of wine from many small wineries that you can't find in the supermarket. The prices were good and fit any budget. The lady running the shop was very helpful in suggesting wines. All-in-all, a great place to buy wine!

Juan's wine store, situated on the outer rim of Mercado de San Telmo, is enjoyed by locals and travellers alike. Juan, and his mother-in-law who also works in the store a few days a week, are very friendly and knowledgeable about wine, and it's always a pleasure to drop in and find some new wines to try. Take the time... More

We were introduced to this shop by our BA Cultural Concierge- Madi. We wanted to take home a sampling of the better wines we had tasted and didn't know where to start. This shop owner speaks fluent english (see earlier reviews) as did his assistant in the shop. Recommendations have been right on, based upon the ones we have now... More

Juan is just really lovely guy with excellent wine knowledge who gives you as much time as you need to discuss wine or anything else about Buenos Aires or Argentina. You can browse at your own pace but really, just ask Juan. His English is great and his wine opinions are unpretentious and very valuable once you tell him what... More

Juan is awesome. His shop is tidy, well organized and his knowledge of Argentinean wines is top notch. I have been introduced to some fantastic wines I would have never had the delight of trying if it had not been for him. For anyone concerned about communicating he speaks perfect English and the pricing is very fair. You just tell... More

I met Juan when he was building the furniture in the store. I bought my first bottles from him some days before VinoTango opened and on every ocasion back in Buenos Aires I always pass by Juan just to see what new things he has got on the shelves. The good thing about Juan is that he has almost everything... More

Staying in San Telmo

Neighborhood Profile
San Telmo
Characterized by cobblestones and narrow streets, San Telmo is defined by the tango, the dance that made Buenos Aires world-famous. Tango is a fusion of many different cultures: a true child of immigration, much like the city itself. Nowadays, it comes alive after dark in the milongas (dance parties) attended by both locals and visitors alike, who dance until the wee hours of the morning. During the day, the antique shops and classic cafés and bars around Plaza Dorrego dominate the scene. The emblematic Bar Plaza Dorrego, with its green awnings, checkered tile floors, and wooden interiors, takes you back in time the moment you step inside. For true porteño traditions, San Telmo is the place to be.
