We were there by complete accident on a Wednesday night (We later found out that it's Baclaran Night) and we were very impressed at the beautiful exterior of the church. There were lots of locals praying and lighting candles outside. Very very local, no tourists! There is a very famous statue of Jesus near the entrance of the church, and... More

The Redemptorist church peaks in activity on Wednesdays popularly known as Baclaran day. This tradition is traced to the first Novena held on June 23,1948 The shrine frequented by Marian devotees houses an icon of the Mother of Perpetual Help brought from Germany in the early 1900s. Due to the number of devotees that flock to church on this day,... More

Down by the Roxas Boulevard, going from our Heritage Hotel ,we found an interesting church. It is called the National Shrine of Our Mother of Perpetual Help or Redemptorist Church. Also known colloquially as the Baclaran Church since it is located in Baclaran, a southern district of Metro Manila, a capital of the Philippines. This part of the city can't... More

I visited the Redemptorist Church during the recent APEC meetings. At that time the Brothers had taken in about 700 Lumad (philippine indigenous people) who were in Manila to protest military atrocities comitted by the government in Mindanao. The Church was like a tent city, but we were treated to cultural performances by the Lumads. The Church and tower are... More

One of the busiest churches here in the Philippines. Heavy traffic going to and from this place so you need to allot at least 1 to 2 hours for travel if you want to start the mass on time. The decor of the church is grand and there are a lot of images for different saints inside as well. They... More

If you wish to avoid the crowd when devotees come in droves on Wednesdays, try to come on any other day excepting Sunday as well. The church is beautiful. If you are driving, approach from the Roxas Boulevard side as the side streets leading to the church are choked with street vendors. Almost rivals Quiapo in terms of devotion.
