The urban sprawl of Stellenbosch comes to an abrupt halt, in its south-western suburb of Onderpapegaai, when you enter the gates of Middelvlei. Suddenly, before you lies a beautiful vineyard-strewn amphitheatre overlooking the Bottelary Hills and the upper reaches of Devon Valley. This is the home of the Momberg family, who have been wine farmers since 1919.Join in the Boerebraai fun at Middelvlei where our resident braai expert will prepare your chops, boerewors and chicken sosaties to perfection. As if the appetising aromas of roosterkoek and braaibroodjies are not enough, Ben's homemade pâté and Ouma Annie's pumpkin fritters have placed the Middelvlei Braai in a league of its own.

Visited for a friend's birthday and we were a group of about 20 South Africans, with several young children. I would definitely recommend the Middelvlei Boerebraai to both South Africans and tourists. There is loads of space for the kids to run around, and the friendly dogs who live there seem happy with all the attention. Our waitress was very... More

Myself and my husband stayed in the cottage for a long weekend. This was a very special experience. The cottage is totally private and extremely comfortable, beautifully decorated with an authentic Cape flavour. Great beds! Little details like umbrellas in the coat stand, plenty of firewood should you need it, lovely books about the area, games for the family in... More

Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review on your Boerebraai experience at Middelvlei! I always knew that foreign visitors will be intrigued by this authentic South African food experience. Little did I realize that it is exactly the authenticity that also excite our local South African guests. Nothing like a Boerebraai braaibroodjie! More

We were in search of a pleasant wine tasting/farm/accommodation experience in the area and Middelvlei was perfect. The suite was wonderfully furnished and the farmhouse setting was beautiful. Upon arrival we were given a free tasting of four or so wines - all very good. The owner and staff were welcoming and hospitable. Simply put: the perfect wine experience in... More

With our accommodation and the Boerebraai restaurant receiving so many compliments one sometimes forgets that Middelvlei is actually in the wine business ! There are so many wonderful offerings in the Stellenbosch winelands and therefore we value your opinion of your wine experience at Middelvlei even more. Thank you very much for the positive feed-back, More

We enjoyed the african braii at Middelvlei, a relaxing and tasty experience. It was a very childfriendly place and allthough the sandpit and the kickbikes was allmost worn out the kids really enjoyed them and the lawn. They also had the possibility to feed the small animals close to the restaurant. The place is not fancy at all but as... More

My wife and I took 10 family members (ranging in age from 2 to 79) to Middlevlei to celebrate or wedding anniversary on 28 December 2014. This wine farm is extremely child friendly - lots of toys, plenty of room to run around, a sand pit, a small petting farm, they even had a gentle sprinkler running which the kids... More

We have frequented Middelvlei for their boerebraai on numerous occasions and they never disappoint! Beautiful setting. Very child friendly with a big, safe lawn, sand pit and animal pen. The food is great. Lovely started of homemade bread with snoek pate and preserves. Meat always perfectly cooked. Delicious braai broodjies. The highlight is the pumpkin fritters, they are truly out... More

After googling child-friendly wine farms and reading some of the TripAdvisor reviews, I decided to try out middelvlei for Sunday lunch. I stopped here with the excellent one day Wine Flies wine tour and we had lunch here plus a wine tasting. The grounds are lovely and the family dogs - a huge black Great Dane, a huge Boer Bull and a cute little dachshund named Grappa make you feel right at home. Lovely place to get a dog fix whilst... Anyone relying on the Tripadvisor map location to get to Middelvlei will get terribly lost and not reach their desired destination. Please check the Middelvlei website and rectify. It is NOT on the Helshoogte Road! It is at the end of Flamingo Road (Off Adam Tas Road) at the complete other side of Stellenbosch
