Spier is one of the oldest wine farms in South Africa, with a recorded history dating back to 1692. Spier's winery has won multiple awards in recent years, including Producer of the Year (Mundus Vini, Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show 2011). We also performed exceptionally at the 2011 International Wine and Spirits Competition (five Best in Class Gold medals and two trophies), and were the top performing SA winery at Concours Mondial de Bruxelles for three consecutive years. The Spier cellar has ISO 22000 certification, is Fair Trade accredited, organically certified and follows the Integrated Production of Wine (IPW) criteria.

The facility is very nice overall. There are two restaurants on site plus a quick deli style facility. The resort is in the wine country and is well located. But that's all that is good with the place. The service was quite poor. We had arranged car service to the cheetah reserve 15 minutes away, 2 weeks ahead of our... More

We did the picnic 10 years ago and it was still enjoyable. It was on a Tuesday out of season so not crowded at all. The picnic basket was good quality and the wine not wow but OK. Overall good value for money. The park setting next to the lake was good and we can recommend it out of season.... More

This is one of the first wine estates that you pass when driving to Stellenbosch for a wine route visit and it is really beautiful with a big tasting room and lots of variety and activities, but it is quite large and commercial compared to the others. However, I cannot blame them as they almost have no option but to... More

This is a beautiful wine yard. We went straight for the wine tasting and were pleasantly surprised that the kids were so welcome they got 3 glasses of grape juice(white, rose & red) as well as a colouring placemat with grape theme and pairing with wine gums:0) Our wine connoisseur (Kyle) was very knowledgeable & passionate despite being so young... OK, so the wine wasn't fabulous, but the bird show was terrific! For R70/adult we explored their extensive collection of beautiful birds of prey that cannot be rehabilitated and returned to the wild. Arrived at 10:30am on a Thursday and were the only people there. Attended the bird show at 11am along with 8 other people. Each of us got... More

Very nice experience, amazingly friendly staff and a lot on offer. The tastings are great, as it is not only wine, but also chocolate, cheese and meat pairings, which a lot of the wine farms lack. A lot of people will see it as too commercialised, but stop being a hipster and just enjoy the spectacular wine and tastings on... More

Very well packaged concept of wine, wildlife, great food and a very comfortable hotel. Hyped up but that translates into really good marketing. Eat in the restaurant, order a picnic by the lake or just grab a couple of delicacies at the deli. Priced up a bit with international market in mind but well worth a visit.
