Spier is one of the oldest wine farms in South Africa, with a recorded history dating back to 1692. Spier's winery has won multiple awards in recent years, including Producer of the Year (Mundus Vini, Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show 2011). We also performed exceptionally at the 2011 International Wine and Spirits Competition (five Best in Class Gold medals and two trophies), and were the top performing SA winery at Concours Mondial de Bruxelles for three consecutive years. The Spier cellar has ISO 22000 certification, is Fair Trade accredited, organically certified and follows the Integrated Production of Wine (IPW) criteria.

I stayed there for work (there was a conference going on at the Farm) in early February, and I had a very pleasant stay. The room was sparse but spacious, the best part being the outdoor sitting area overlooking the yard. I got to see the Hadeda birds roaming about, while I sat outside enjoying the gorgeous weather. One strange... More

We were here 10 years ago and it was really good, not now! The picnic food was poor, the wine was poor and the grounds were not as well manicured as they used to be.

Gorgeous setting, but the choice of wines for their tasting was average compared to other wineries in the area. Weekends can get crowded, which could explain the slow service and minimal interest in explaining the wines.

We drove to this place one afternoon when we were staying in Fish Hoek, Cape Town, last month. We tried the wine and chocolate tasting (R65 pp) with the cheese and meat platter and it was a delightful experience. The wine and chocolate pairing is a unique option (according to me) which I had not seen before. The tasting of... More

The facility is very nice overall. There are two restaurants on site plus a quick deli style facility. The resort is in the wine country and is well located. But that's all that is good with the place. The service was quite poor. We had arranged car service to the cheetah reserve 15 minutes away, 2 weeks ahead of our... More

We did the picnic 10 years ago and it was still enjoyable. It was on a Tuesday out of season so not crowded at all. The picnic basket was good quality and the wine not wow but OK. Overall good value for money. The park setting next to the lake was good and we can recommend it out of season.... More

This is one of the first wine estates that you pass when driving to Stellenbosch for a wine route visit and it is really beautiful with a big tasting room and lots of variety and activities, but it is quite large and commercial compared to the others. However, I cannot blame them as they almost have no option but to... More

This is a beautiful wine yard. We went straight for the wine tasting and were pleasantly surprised that the kids were so welcome they got 3 glasses of grape juice(white, rose & red) as well as a colouring placemat with grape theme and pairing with wine gums:0) Our wine connoisseur (Kyle) was very knowledgeable & passionate despite being so young...
