The first house was interesting and the lady put in some effort to explain the period of the house but the next three houses were extremely disappointing. The ceramics and china on display are cracked and some do not appear to be from the correct time period. One display room was stacked with ceiling high with chairs. In the last... More

This is quite an interesting visit if you're walking around Stellenbosch and exploring. I like how you see how Stellenbosch has transformed over the years. The ladies that are dressed according to the time period is a nice touch and they're very friendly and informative.

There's nothing like learning more about the history of the town you are staying. The tour was interesting and well laid-out.

The Village Museum is an informative and fun diversion between shopping and wine tasting in Stellenbosch. The museum is a collection of four homes from different time periods that provide a look back at domestic life for the well-heeled in South Africa. We especially enjoyed learning from the friendly and informative docents stationed at each home; many were dressed in... More

This is a lovely museum, a series of houses spread over a few streets which are set up as they would have been when originally built. They are interesting and manned (or womaned) by a group of lovely ladies who are in period costume and very happy to explain the house and the way life was for the occupants. The... More

I was lucky to have gotten free entrance to this amazing museum. The authentic smell of the wooden floors and the oiled furniture took me back to all the visits of my grandfather when I was a little girl. The curators have made a great deal of effort to display how the early South Africans conducted their lives. No detail... More

When walking inside the entrance it seems like it is a normal house but when stepping inside the house itself you get that feeling if history coming back to you for when i grew up back at home on the farm. The smell of the medicine that was used in the olden days for coughs and sickness comes out strongly... More
