Small but worthy community project in the heart of knysna

This little park near the Centre of town is a great short stop off in knysna. It's a quick way to see a portion of forest or go for a short walk.

Went birding at Pledge Reserve again today. Only got started at 11h30 which is a bit late. Was very pleasantly surprised to see a pair of Olive Woodpeckers up real close, a Blue Mantled Crested Fly Catcher and a Cape Batis and not so pleasantly surprised when a fairly long brownish snake darted across my path into the undergrowth. The... More

The nature reserve has a fascinating history of being reclaimed from a logging waste area. Hard to believe what has been achieved in a relatively short amount of time. It is a beautiful and peaceful place to meander along the trails, or just watch the dragonflies over the pond. Plenty of benches to sit on and enjoy the birds

If you are into birding Pledge is a great find. Right in the centre of town. I have never had the fortune of seeing a Knysna Turaco there but I did get to tick off a White Starred Robin on one of my trips. The first time I went I wasn't prepared for the mozzies and got nailed. If you... More

Discovered this place through a geocache. What a pleasant surprise. Right in town, this is an easy to get to and beautiful reserve with wonderful views of the lagoon and Heads from the top of the trail. This was a nice break from our usual Knysna outings. My partner has owned a place here for 20 years and had never... More

I would not make a special visit to Pledge. It is a pathway cut through the woods with nameplates placed on a few of the trees. It is a very peaceful stroll on the edge of the town centre but not much more. It may improve with time.

Worth a couple of hours, you get some lovely views, the bird life is excellent. A nice place to get away from it all.

The entrance to this has changed since we last visited but still easy to find. Interesting paths with lovely fynbos and flowers as you walk up to the crest of the hill. Once there some very good views over the town and out to the lagoon. We were very lucky to spot the elusive Loerie in amongst the trees!

Peaceful and tranquil even though in the centre of town. Has great variety of fynbos. Ideal for birdwatchers. Saw famous pink loeries there.

Situated just behind Knysna's Main Road Pledge has a great choice of natural habitats: forest, wetland, fynbos.Beautiful indigenous plant species, cool ponds and streams and a wonderful range of birds, including the Knysna Turaco (Loerie) can be seen in a lovely walk through the various areas of the reserve. From the top there is a great view of the famous... More
