We did this tour with Penny and Ella in August. We had been told that some townships could be quite unsafe to visit. However, this tour ensures that tourists are safely guided around the township. We visited hairdressing salon, shop, etc and even visited a local school where the children recited rhymes and sang songs for us. The guides were... More

On a rainy cold day in June Ella picked us up (family of 4, with teenagers) to go on a township tour. It was a great experience. Ella told us a lot about the history of the townships and the way people live there nowadays. We visited a couple of shops in containers and know now all about African hair... More

We were welcomed by Ella into her own home and given a great insight into the Knysna Township. We really enjoyed meeting the school children and our daughters really enjoyed interacting with the local children. The tour provided a great new aspect to our African adventure.

This tour is conducted by Ella that lives in the township and therefor, besides the sights it gave us some insights as well. The tour is very well organized: they pick you up and then tour with you for 2-3 hours in the township. You get to learn about different aspects of the township and it's community, visit in a... We've visited the Knysna township win Emzini Tours. It's been a great experience. Very well organized. The tour consists on a short trip to the township in a hill nearby Knysna... Amazing to see that just in 2-3 km distance from the luxury waterfront there's a humble community living in very different conditions. We got a lot of information about... More

this is a well organised and fascinating visit to the local Knysna township which is not the poorest in south africa but neverless but still overwhelming. The visit included various stops including a school and the hostess's home. Ella is a fascinating guide and hugely knowledgeable. The high cost reflects the fact that most of the money goes back into... More

The township tour by Emzini tours is definitely worth it! Many aspects of the township are shown by people who grew up there, know their way around, know the people. Besides that, they use the money to fund some great projects within the township.

The Emzini Township Tour is a must if you are in the Knysna area. Ella and Lynne were very friendly and gave us a fascinating insight into life in the township. This may have been the best part of my entire trip to South Africa. Go and do!

Penny and Ella do amazing work in the townships. It is well worth the effort to go and experience life "on the hill". It is illuminating and interesting. They also feed hungry dogs and take dogs without shelter, a donated kennel and blanket. Commendable work being done here by these wonderful ladies. Go and support them if you can.

We found the Emzini Township Tour at the last minute, and even though we were only in Knysna for one day, they were willing to accommodate us, for which we're very thankful as this tour was a truly amazing experience. It's rare when traveling that you have an opportunity to connect with the local residents and visit where they live,... More
