I hate gardens. I don't get the whole thing about them, they just bore me. But after being dragged along to Kirstenbosch I make a huge exception for this one. OK, having Table Mountain as a backdrop gets anywhere off to a great start. But the fauna was fascinating (I never thought I'd say that), and unlike anything I'd seen... more

Kirstenbosch is the best example of a botanical garden that I have ever visited and I have visited a few in the world. It is just an amazing place to wander around and a photographers paradise. There are also 2 restaurants/cafe to refresh yourself. A not to be missed excursion while in Cape Town. A hint, passed on by a... more

These botanical gardens are a must if you are spending any decent amount of time in the Cape. They are truly stunning, a beautiful place to spend at least half a day. We visited in April and most of the flowering plants were over but the gardens were still lovely. There is a fair amount of walking so take water... more

Wonderful setting underneath Table Mountain and a very relaxing way to spend an afternoon. Take a picnic and blanket on a Sunday during February and stay on for the evening concerts. We wish we did! more

This beautiful place is not just for plant lovers - the views are incredible, lush lawns perfect for picnics and kids, open air concerts held in an unforgettable setting, and a lovely shop and restuarant. The plants in the gardens showcase South Africa's remarkable floral heritage, from the cycads and proteas to the baobab and quiver trees. An attraction that... more

I spent a couple hours at Kirstenbosch Gardens during my trip to Cape Town. My thoughts: Specifics: They are open 365 days a year and the price is right (I think around 30-35R). Setting: I couldn't imagine a more romantic/moving setting than the one I saw when visiting (ok, maybe a 500ft waterfall as well). Table Mountain serves as a... more

Sited at the foot of Table Mountain it is a very extensive garden devoted primarily to the indigenous unique flora . It has a marvellous collection of protea , the national flower of South Africa. We bought some seeds to bring back ( no problem to bring back as packet is totally sealed , hope we are successful in growing... more

Unless you're a big fan of flowers, or almost a botanist, the tour has no additional attraction. I would not recommend that you not fall in those cases. The garden is very large, but for those who do not appreciate flowers with the look of a botanist, everything is very equal and walking becomes tiring. more

Kirstenbosch is my favourite picnic spot in Cape Town. You can generally find a sheltered spot away from the wind. Especially lovely on balmy summers days, just lazing. The gardens are well maintained and just beautiful. Bring your own food, or you will pay more than is necessary from one of the stores. If you want to get away from... more

I have just returned from a day at the Gardens. We took a picnic lunch and a bottle of SA sparkling wine and sat on one of the many lawns that are all over the gardens. November is a great time to visit as the Protea are blooming. These plants are unique to the Cape floral kingdom and have the... more
