Without any doubt, even the most hardened City Dweller will shake off the dust and fumes of city life when entering the Botanical Gardens of Kirstenbosch in Cape Town. The sceptic will find the open landscape and intriguing plants a tonic to a tired mind. The lungs can breath fresh air again. The mind can wonder beyond selfinflicted narrowmindedness, Thoughts... Gorgeous surroundings but very overpriced for what you get if you just want to walk through the gardens and get a bit of fresh air into your lungs. It's a pity - I'd love to go more often, and probably would if it was cheaper.

Was actually almost 25 years ago, but still remember the fabulous plant material, that few other climates can support. Looking forward to going back again.

On the final day of my recent Cape Town holiday, I visited Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens. We kick-started the day with brunch at Moyo, and then spent the next couple of hours wandering among the fynbos. The views from the Kirstenbosch Centenary Tree Canopy Walkway (aka “The Boomslang,” meaning tree snake) were simply jaw dropping.

Plan on spending the day if you really like plants and take a tour with one of the guides to really get the most of the garden. I loved it but only had one hour to spend there.

I only went to eat at the famous restaurant in the Gardens but just the walk to the restaurant and the view of the mountains was gorgeous. It is a very famous place to visit and gets extremely busy in the peak seasons so you have to make sure that you make the reservations to the restaurant in the Gardens... More

Very beautiful place. Definitely a must to stop and see. The route is wonderful (we took the Hop on Hop Off bus) and the location is very serene and colorful. A lot of quirky plants!

We were a bit late in the day to visit these lovely gardens but so glad we did anyway. It is worth a visit for the beauty, the location at the foot of table mountain, and a good way to stretch your legs with as many up and down paths as you care to take. You could spend hours here.... More

We went for the Sunday outdoor concert series, which was a great experience, but the gardens themselves were not particularly interesting, although it may have been the time of year.

Clean, well laid out and extensive range of trees and plants to see. Directions to attractions are well presented . Interesting facts given at various points. A most enjoyable walk with beautiful sights to see. Just found food a beverage a bit costly. R20 for a can of coke for a local drink is a bit excessive.
