Never saw anything of interest, unsafe, depressing, flat, same old thing you can see in any township or poor area in any country.

...it's like a people safari visit. You walk amongst the unfortunate (in a materialistic sense) township dwellers with your guide who explains you their world. And our tour groups cross your path form time and then, which makes you feel eerie. Having said that, it was certainly interesting to see under what conditions people live in, how the local beer... Good to get an insight into real living. Children have been told not to beg but they do hold out their hands for money! Despite the lack of money there are still a lot of plasma TVs! Would not feel safe walking about myself!

This tour really shows you the level of deprivation that many still have to live in. It is uncomfortable to see other humans having to live this way, it is uncomfortable to be welcomed in to their tiny living spaces as a tourist. But come away telling everyone and support these people. Bring sweets for the children, they are lovely... More

The look at a 'poor apartment' felt very intrusive although the visit to the community project was really good

I would recommend doing a township if you visit Cape Town. No way to describe how so many people live in such close proximity in in so much poverty and have it be an accepted way of life for, not just the people that live there but also for all of South Africa. We only visited government sanctioned housing, 22... More

My husband and I visited Langa for an afternoon and got to see just a little bit of this amazing community. We had a local tour guide, Godfried, who grew up in Langa and is raising his family in the community as well. He was able to give us a better understanding of history of Langa. We ate lunch at... I am amazed at the friendliness and openness of those that live in the Township. Like Kayaleisha the people a respectful and willing to share their culture and history. We enjoyed our visit there.

To go on safari and see all the wonderful animals and then enjoy the landscapes and sunsets is fantastic. To visit Capetown with the majestic Table Mountain and to see the beautiful homes and beaches and the opulent VA waterfront was superb. But to really understand the history and fabric of South Africa, one must go to Robben Island, the... More

One does not realize how so many people live, in such close proximity and so poorly. Visit to a girls'dormitory ruled over by a female muti was an eye-opener. Welfare centre well-run, offering art and cookery tuition, amongst other things.
