I took a walking tour of Langa township, population 60,000 , with a local guide who actually lives in the township. It was a sobering experience to see how families live in very confined spaces , with little privacy in some cases such as the hostels where 16 people share one residence , with 6 small bedrooms and one communal... A good way to understand the local poorer part of the Capetonians and get the real pic of these townships is to take an inexpensive tour with a local guide..

People at the township were genuine and friendly, the kids just wanted to keep playing with us. A real humbling experience.

We opted for a half day visit to Langa township, which is where the black population of Cape Town was forcibly moved to as Apartheid was established in 1948, the conditions they lived in then and that some still do can only be described as horrific, the fact that this has been allowed to continue can only be described as... We took a private tour (I can't imagine traveling around in a big group), and I was very worried about being voyeuristic or exploitative. However, I really wanted to see all of Cape Town, and learn about all it's people as well as see the legacy of apartheid. What we found was an amazing community of proud people with goals,... More

This is a must see Township as I beleive it is the oldest township of all in South Africa. I especially enjoyed visiting the community center where mentoring and training takes place with the community's youth. Sadly, most dwellings people live in are in poor condition. It is still a reminder that the city and country is still light years... More

This was one of the highlights in Cape Town. MC from ProTeams SA is an incredible guide and person. He is from the Langa community and knows the ins and outs of the people and place. Highly highly recommend this experience!
