If you are thinking about a township tour in Cape Town look no further. Siviwe Tours provided an excellent walk around tour of the Langa township, where we were able to gain a valuable insight into the lives of those that live there, humbled by the sense of community. Nathi was our guide - really informative and very happy to... More

A wonderful experience and definitely a highlight of our family trip to Cape Town. You get from the tour what you put into it, you are frequently invited to ask questions and explore more about life in the Township. Holding hands with the children and sharing photos with them was very humbling. The tour would not have been the same... More

A surreal experience. Walking through the township you can't help but notice the sheer poverty, however the pride and majesty of the people was palatable. Take the worst projects and hood in America and multiply it by 100. This isn't for the faint of heart. You will never look at someone with less than yopu the same way again. Make... More

Really enjoyed our walking tour with MC who runs Proteam, and is passionate about where he grew up, and full of stories and informative chat about local life and culture, and how local people are working to learn new skills and help raise themselves out of poverty - MC was keen to convey this positive message rather than using it... This area shows another side to Cape Town and the history during apartheid. How these people live today and are still waiting to find housing.

I have been in many developing countries and saw similar sites. But I have never seen the poverty so magnified. Apparently out of 50 m population , around 20 m in South Africa live in the conditions similar to Langa. We have visited a Barack where 15 people share 3 bunk beds in a tiny room. The kids sleep on... More

langa is the closet township to cape town city center so it's easy to get there. but be careful going there on your own. unfortunately langa(and other townships) has a bad reputation of crime so be street smart if you want to visit. but there is a number of local tourist operators who can provide a guided tour. many times... Part of our Cape Town experience was a guided tour of Langa. Walking the paths, viewing the living conditions and seeing the inhabitants was time well spent. The level of poverty is unbelievable, as is the human spirit to exist in the conditions. Be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes and bring a bottle of water because you are walking... More

As a white tourist from the US it is easy to end up at the usual tourist spots, where you'll see lots of people who look like you, except for the entry level service workers who don't look like you. Find yourself a good township tour (like Vamos) and check out township life. You'll be surprised at the socio-economic diversity... More
