A sad place, but I suppose we need to see this side of South Africa. Very contronting to see the appauling conditions so many people are living in. I'm not completely sure how the system works but there are streets (unsealed) and rows and rows of shacks. Many with broken windows, no doors, some look like old shipping containers, shacks.... This was a great and very informative tour. Our guide was open to any questions we wanted to ask and showed us all around the township, highlighting the different types of housing and people living there. All the people we met were friendly and this was definitely a great way to see the other side of Cape Town.

Thought long and hard about paying to visit a township. My view was that my children needed to see how others live. Wife's view was morality of poverty touism - slightly voyeuristic. Despite reservations we did visit the township. An incredible experience on many levels. Open sewers, ram-shackle buildings, sheep heads thawing in the sun, local beer being made by... More

Langa was one of the townships we visited with our guide yesterday morning. We learnt so much about the township, got to meet some of the locals and went into their homes. We visited a school where the little ones danced for us & sang their national anthem to us. We also visited a community project centre where we were... More

Our VBT group had a walking tour with a local guide through Langa. Over 1million people living in small tin rooms. We visited the ceramic studio where locals are trained to paint plates, mugs, etc. and for sale. Our walk showed us how the locals live, plucking and cooking chickens roadside, and sheep heads. Shopping for some local art benefited... More

I liked cycling the township on a bicycle, it's exceptional. I visited even the home of the famous South African's music icon ~ Brenda Fassie.

We visited Langa Township as part of the long walk to freedom tour. It was very interesting and a real eye opener. In an effort to help tourists appreciate how they live the residents are happy to show their homes to visitors. It is defiantly worth a visit if you have time.

MC of Proteamsa did a special tour to Langa for my daughter and 7 year old grandson. We spent about an hour and a half on the whole tour. Visited the Hostels, where Ollie was over awed by the fact that 3 families shared a room the size of his bedroom back in the UK. He talked to some of... More

This was my first time in a township or anything remotely like it. What an eye opener. To be in their community, talk with the people, go into their homes, see the children, and bear witness to their life...humbling and I am so grateful I had this opportunity.
