One doesn't really visit the V&A Waterfront as much as experience it. Most visitors will at least pass through here on even the most cursory visits to the city and while visiting more subtantial sites such as Robben Island. Pros: Endless entertainment and dining options, from solitary musicians and colorful dance groups to essentially any major type of cuisine you... more
Bustling, with top class shopping, top class eating and a great atmosphere, buskers, entertainers etc.. If you want an authenitic African experience, go backpacking in bush, the Waterfront is civilised and pleasant. A great place for a city break. more
The V&A Waterfront is built for touists and has the obligatory curiosity shops, restaurants and other commercial establishments. It's very busy and for many, this is the target destination spot where everyone seems to go. After doing some research, I advanced booked a sunset cruise with the Maharani Yacht company aboard their clipper ship and this proved to be the... more
We stayed at the V&A during our visit to Cape Town, and we were not disappointed. The staff was very friendly and very professionel, the food was good, the location great and the room was clean, modern and comfortable. We were very well taken care of and will definately choose to stay there again when going back to Cape Town.... more
The Victoria and Alfred was truly a treat. It is clear that this hotel understands guest service and makes it a high priority. Staff members were friendly and helpful at every turn. Everyone, from the front desk staff to the housekeepers were quick to greet guests in a friendly manner. The room we were in was both enormous and very... more

Long St, Kloof St, Greenmarket Sq and around Parliament are more the real Cape Town (and have better restaurants) but the V&A is definately worth going to - especially if you're a first time visitor to... more
My family and i just got back from Cape Town and we absolutely loved the Waterfront. I disagree with all the negative comments about it. We had a great time eating out there, all the restaurants had such great views and phenomenal service, the staff in all restaurants were very humerous and entertaining. Especially since we have 3 teenagers, there... more
It may be unfair saying Americanisation, as this place reminds me of many shopping districts around the world, but I guess they appeared in America first. I'm reminded of harbour fronts in New York, San Francisco and Boston to name three. Its a safe place to visit and its fine for shoppers and those looking for a reasonable meal, but... more
We stayed there as a family eight years ago and loved it! Never forgotten the hotel or the area. We will return! And we thank our South African travel agent in CapeTown - Rufaro - for selecting the place and guiding us to it. In comparison, Jo-berg is a slum! BG Koshy Bangalore India more
