You cant come to Cape Town without visiting Robben Island. Its worth the money you can take a look at the museum whilst waiting for the ferry, then you take a lovely 30min boat ride to the island with great views of Table Mountain from the sea. Once you arrive on the Island you will be taken on a bus... more

From the 17th to the 20th centuries, Robben Island served as a place of banishment, isolation (leprosy sufferers) and imprisonment yet in the minds of some it is a place marked by the Apartheid Era only, forgetting about the whites who too spend their lives their. I have to say that I joined on this tour with my Irish and... more

My family really enjoyed this tour. 25 minutes catamaran jet foil boat each way to the island followed by an excellent guided tour, with one of the tour guides an actual ex-political prisoner held on the island. See and learn about how Nelson Mandela turned his prison experience into a victory of life and cause. Book days ahead as this... more

My wife and I love sightseeing. We were both history/political science majors, so generally love this kind of thing. But I promise, it's not worth it (and the locals will admit it too btw). This takes four hours out of your valuable time in Cape Town for what's ultimately maybe 30 minutes of interesting viewing at Robben Island. There is... more

Robben Island is basically the reason I travelled half-way around the world to Cape Town. Specifics: Tickets: I was luckily warned before I came that buying tickets on-line and several weeks ahead of your visit is essential. Many people have a quick stay in Cape Town and leave bitterly disappointed that they are unable to see the Island. I would... more

I feel i must write-as most previous comments seem negative ( to do with the organization). Our trip was late setting off from Capetown, but when we arrived at robben island, we had an informative bus tour around the island, followed by a fantastic tour of the prison, by an x prisoner. He took us around the site, informing us... more

I am experiencing the same nightmare as Flammicke trying to get a refund for a trip (for 4 people) that has been cancelled due to high winds. Desperately trying to get in touch with anyone over there, FOR MORE THAN THREE MONTHS and I just get no answer at all. I managed to get in touch with someone once, but... more

My partner and I were in Cape Town in the March and booked our tickets a day in advance. We went down to the Waterfront (Nelson Mandela Gateway) and got the ferry across to Robben Island. The ferry journey was pleasant and we saw lots of seals and a few dolphins and different views of Table Mountain etc. Once on... more

I booked tickets for 2 friends arriving from the US almost 2 months in advance. When they arrived at the ferry terminal this morning, they were told all boats are cancelled until Saturday due to high winds. [They leave on Friday] They have been refused a refund, as "they don't have enough cash for refunds"- what rubbish! If you can... more

After a 45 minute ferry ride, you arrive at Robben Island to be taken on a bus tour, and then a guided tour of the maximum security prison. The guides are former political prisoners (Mandela was incarcerated there for 18 years). It is a moving experience, and should not be missed. But your tickets in advance! We were there in... more
