This was a tour we were really looking forward to and it did not disappoint! The ferry ride to the island was smooth, although I understand that it can be quite choppy. There is a wonderful view of cable mountain from the back of the ferry. We saw a whale on the return trip. We were guided to buses once... More

The boat trip out was amazing, beautiful weather, calm seas and the scenery looking back towards table Mountain and Cape Town. The island itself was very barren, the tour guides were informative and the fact that they were former prisoners there was an added bonus. But,to listen to the stories and the horror that was placed upon these people, the... More

So glad we went, Well organized. Boat left early. Beautiful day and views back to Cape Town. Informative bus tour guide before walk around prison with another guide. Good explanations given and shown of life on the island.. Can't understand some of the previous negative comments

Loved the fact 2 in-mates were our guides on the island BUT the actual location itself had nothing deeper than the building itself - thought it would have had a history section or video/photo footage so it would be more of an experience to remember. And there is NO water for sale at the 1 mini shop by the boat... More

The voyage to Robben Island conjures up the sense of hopelessness that Nelson Mandela and countless others must have experienced. The island is largely devoid of any topographic features. It's prison blocks are featureless....just basic housing for the inmates. I believe it is a place that must be visited to help fully realize the history of South Africa's struggles.

You can visit this island, if you love history and want to know how SA got independence. Best leaders came from there. Its a town in itself with very small population. Please beware of snakes.

It was an insightful tour to a place which holds great historical significance to South Africa. The island itself was a haven for many creatures. As I was on the guided tour, I wish that we have more time to explore the island outside of the tour.
