Robben Island told a very sad story. Many men of South Africa, mainly from Capetown suffered unnecessarily in this horrible prison. Of course, the tour director made it seem much better than it actually was but those of us who can "hear and read between the lines" know how badly those prisoners lived. Yet, there were some very smart ones... More

I've met many travellers hesitant to make the trip to Robben island. Reasons being unreliable ferry schedules and not much to see. Not much to see? This is recent history affecting every citizen on the planet! On the island our driver doubled as a talented tour leader talking about other prisoners' significance besides from the one impersonating Robben island. Our... More

It may appeal to some people but I didn't enjoy riding around the island in a bus looking at buildings. I would have liked to get off the bus at the stone quarry where Mandela and other political prisoners slaved. The 5 star portion of the tour was having a former political prisoner guide my group around the prison with... More

I'm really interested in history, so I like to make sure to check out the most important historical sites anytime I visit a new city. Robben Island was on my must-see list for Cape Town. It was a very interesting museum, with a driving tour followed by a walking tour. The driving tour allowed us to see a substantial portion... More

Guided by former political prisoners, the visit was very meaningful; the guides professionally related their experiences in very detailed accounts. It was an eye opener and a highly recommended visit.

A unique experience visiting Robben Island. First we make a bus tour around the island. The most exciting part is when we visited the prison. The guide was a former political prisoner. This was amazing. Because he was explaining about the prison and sharing his own experience. A lot of emotions. We were captivated by his speech. Definitely a must... More

This trip was a mixture of good and bad. The experience on the island lived up to expecttions; we saw for ourselves the conditions the captives including Nelson Mandela lived in and the open mines they worked under the constant hot sun. The crossing by boat was dasastrous. Rough sea caused cancellations of two trips in the morning and a... More

This was just an incredible trip. The ex prisoners take you round and tell you all about it. Mandela's cell was so small. Do visit this amazing place if you are lucky enough to visit Cape Town.

Lovely trip across the bay where you are met on Robben island and efficiently moved around the site on buses and on foot and given a very moving tour by ex political prisoners telling their experiences. Less harrowing than I thought it would be . Lots of students and boat loads of tourists ,take your sun cream.
