Situated 20 minutes from Cape Town central and one of the Big 6 tourist destinations, Groot Constantia is a must visit. With two fine restaurants, Jonkershuis and Simon's (contact details on website), wine tastings, chocolate and wine pairing, cellar tours and a museum that reminds one of a bygone era, this beautiful historic winery is a popular attraction. « less

Had a lovely stroll at the winery. It was included in the hop and off bus route and so I could easily drop by. Since I did not have a car, I chose to visit this place rather than try and get to all the other very famous places and I had a serene afternoon walking around.

There are few places where you can't bring yourself to leave after a excellent meal, in a wonderful setting where no one wants to go home. A really unique dinner experience in the cold months that will have you dread the time to leave.

Set just outside Cape Town central, you wouldn't believe this place exists. Fabulous wine tasting experience with an insight to how the process gets done. Lovely tour around the place as well. Excellent canapés that wouldn't end and obviously a healthy amount of wine as well. Watch out for the baboons though! Only place you can get a picture of... More

Well worth a visit to the oldest wine farm in South Africa. It is worth visiting the house museum and see how the past generations lived in their day without the mod cons of today. So interesting. South African Pensioners offered special rates too. Did not manage to go through the wine tasting due to lack of time. There is... More

Delightful vineyard. Beautifully laid out, and with a lot of historical significance. We visited as a stop off from the excellent City Sightseeing Bus Tour (Blue bus). We were short of time so didn't make the full vineyard tour. But, of course, we made sure to do the wine tasting. Our wine expert was a knowledgable young man who delighted... More

Coming form Gauteng; we don't know a lot about the old Cape history and Groot Constantia is very interesting in that regard. The place gives a insight into the Cape hundreds of years ago.

We joined cellar tour and wine + chocolate tasting here. Their wines are great! The most impressive experience is the way they match each type of wine with each type of chocolate e.g. light sauvignon blanc with white chocolate... they really complement each other. Don't miss wine and chocolate tasting here!!

We went to Simons Restaurant on a Monday public holiday and were pressed for time to make an appointment. We ordered our food , fresh battered fish and chips, which promptly arrived 15 minutes later. Excellent service considering the place was very full. The meal was delicious and the portions generous. They serve craft beer on tap and I can... More

I saw Groot Constantia as a child and has never forgotten the view of the house as you walk up the tree-lined avenue. The parking lot has now moved and you miss this view, unless you walk back and enter on foot through the white gates - please do that - it changes the whole experience! The house itself is... More
