Owner description: Groot Constantia is South Africa's oldest wine producing estate, (est: 1685). Situated 20 minutes from Cape Town central and one of the Big 6 tourist destinations, Groot Constantia is a must visit. With two fine restaurants, Jonkershuis and Simon's (contact details on website), wine tastings, chocolate and wine pairing, cellar tours and a museum that reminds one of a bygone era, this beautiful historic winery is a popular attraction.

Based on the edge of the city, close to other attractions, this famous spot makes a good venue for weddings, and a wonderful number of restaurants for those who want to try original Cape Dutch cooking in a 300 year old building or perhaps something more continental in a more modern restaurant. Designed to suit most pockets, this complex is... More

What a disappointment. Groot Constantia has become a complete tourist trap. The fact that there is japanese instructions inside the toilets says a lot about their target market. Unlike the other farms in the Constantia area, they lack the quality of service and views on offer. Good thing for them they are on the bus route otherwise they would have... More

We drove to Groot Constantia which is a short distance from Cape Town and reputed to be the country's oldest wine estate still in operation. We were given a guided a tour of the entire facility followed by a wine tasting session where a selection of five of their vintages were tasted. We are certainly not experts but considered the... We stopped here for a wine tasting, and to enjoy the verdant setting of the vineyards with the background of the mountains. Fabulous! For wine tasting, we bought a ticket for a few rand for 5 wines for one of us, and we chose a mixture of white and red. The quantities were easily sufficient for both of us to... More

We went to Groot Constantia because it is a bus stop on the blue bus tour. The vineyard is beautifully located and invites to spend some time there. We went for the chocolate and wine pairing. It was around R75 which is a fair price for 5 wines. However, we did neither enjoy the wines nor the chocolate. The wines... More

We decided to stop by the winery from the hop-on, hop-off bus tour and were blown away. The views were just gorgeous to be so close to the city. The history was very interesting. The wine tasting was a great deal - very low price for very generous pours of 5 of the wines. Very peaceful, and fun to be... More
