Situated 20 minutes from Cape Town central and one of the Big 6 tourist destinations, Groot Constantia is a must visit. With two fine restaurants, Jonkershuis and Simon's (contact details on website), wine tastings, chocolate and wine pairing, cellar tours and a museum that reminds one of a bygone era, this beautiful historic winery is a popular attraction. « less

I recently organised wine tasting for 30 friends at Groot Constantia's tasting room. The manager and staff were professional, welcoming, friendly and wonderful to deal with. Seriously flawless service, well above and beyond what was expected, to make our afternoon the best it could be. Thank you Ricardo, Theo and team!

You can get to the winery on the hop-on hop-off bus via the purple route. It is set in the hills behind Table Mountain and has lovely grounds. We did the wine tasting and had a very knowledgeable and informative young girl who we enjoyed talking to. Their wines were ok but not always to our taste. We shared a tasting... More

Very nice scenery and premisses. Has an interesting museum that can be visited for a fee. Local wine can be tasted and purchased at a specially dedicated cave. Restaurant is also very good, both the food and the local wine. The blue line of the Red Bus will take you there in something like an hour. Actually there is a... More

A terrific experience with the fun staff and a wonderful assortment of wine and chocolate tastings. For only $6 US it's beyond amazing. The chocolate is fantastic. We really enjoyed the reserve vintage. We toured the house and grounds on a misty rainy day. It was a fun glimpse into the past, but don't expect Smithsonian level details. Many items... More

My husband and I spent about 1 1/2 hrs. at Groot Constantia. We were there late in the day so did not get a chance to go on the tour, but I did the general wine tasting, and my husband did the wine/chocolate pairing. There were quite the variety of wines to try, and the employee that helped us seemed... More

We did a cellar tour followed by wine tasting and lunch at Groot Constantia on a mild day in August. The farm's cellar tour guide and wine taster was distinctly average as she seemed bored throughout the time she was giving us the tour and telling us about the wine's the farm produced. Despite the guide's boredom, it was interesting... More

We love wine tasting. And every time we go to Cape Town I can't wait to go to Groot Constancia. It is beautiful and the wine is just lovely. It's so calm and relaxing, it doesn't even feel like you are in a big city. I will go back again and again.

Being a tour guide, we often do not have a choice of where to go as it is prescribed by the Tour operator ( often outside the country). If I had the choice I would avoid GC wine tasting like the plague. It already started with the the telephonic booking I made an hour prior to arriving, very little interest... More

We arrived at about 4:40PM, just after the tasting room had closed. They took pity on us and offered one taste each "on the house." We sampled a chardonnay, a cabernet and a pinotage. All were quite good. We bought two bottles of the pinotage, which we don't see at home. Price was reasonable for a good quality wine. Hope... More
