Groot Constantia is South Africa's oldest wine producing estate, (est: 1685). Situated 20 minutes from Cape Town central and one of the Big 6 tourist destinations, Groot Constantia is a must visit. With two fine restaurants, Jonkershuis and Simon's (contact details on website), wine tastings, chocolate and wine pairing, cellar tours and a museum that reminds one of a bygone era, this beautiful historic winery is a popular attraction.

Groot Constantia wine estate with the homestead with its Cape Dutch gable is very impressive. The estate is steeped in history. Excellent lunch was served in the Simon's Restaurant. The fall colors and mild weather made sitting outside very refreshing. The wine - chocolate tasting was oh so worth it. The history of this estate providing wine to royalty way... More

We visited just the house and grounds here as we had other wine tours booked. It is easy to get to on the City Sightseeing Bus Tour. The house has great Cape Dutch architecture and was built in the 1790's. It is very interesting to look round as it is filled with period Cape furniture. It costs just a few... More

One of the wine farms that can be reached by the HOP on HOP off bus! What a lovely wine estate! Here you can sit inside surrounded by the most beautiful artwork and enjoy the most amazing wine and cheese and take home your cheese board as a souvenir. You will enjoy the friendly service, the great tasting wine at... More

We had a really enjoyable wine tasting at Groot Constantia--the oldest winery in South Africa! The wines offered were very enjoyable and the tasting was very affordable. I was tempted to try the "wine matching with chocolate" and it was really wonderful! Who knew that wine and chocolate actually could go together???! I found out that they can and really... More

Having heard that Groot Constantia recently won the best Chardonnay in the world award, we just had to stop for a wine tasting. The tasting area is big with plenty of staff on standby to introduce you to all the wines on offer to taste. They are very knowledgable and we thoroughly enjoyed our tasting. I was also astonished to... More

This is an Icon and must be accepted and respected as such. It is Simon Van Der Stels farm from the 16 hundreds and is full of history and obviously that of wine viniculture and viticulture. it has the traditional Cape Dutch style gabbles and a beautiful cellar plus picturesque vineyards to match. However it loses its specialness because it... More

When in Cape Town we always use the hop on hop off bus to go to Groot Constantia for a wine tasting and lunch. It is a very pleasant ride and we have always had a delicious lunch at the Jonkerhuis restaurant.
