Groot Constantia is South Africa's oldest wine producing estate, (est: 1685). Situated 20 minutes from Cape Town central and one of the Big 6 tourist destinations, Groot Constantia is a must visit. With two fine restaurants, Jonkershuis and Simon's (contact details on website), wine tastings, chocolate and wine pairing, cellar tours and a museum that reminds one of a bygone era, this beautiful historic winery is a popular attraction.

Went there for a wine tasting and had an excellent morning. it is very geared to the big tourist groups and very formal, but good for a person to get an overview of what wine making is about and then taste some excellent wines.

The whole site is huge with a few different places to eat and sign-posts to the cellar visit (which we didn't do) and the wine tasting. The girl at the checkout seemed very bored and quite curt that we didn't take the cellar visit - we have already seen many wine cellars elsewhere. The tasting itself was better but the... More

I visited this high-rated vineyard in occasion of an international meeting. The place at night is great, as it was the welcome. However, the small food-picks intended to accompany/amplify local wine tasting were just anonymous, as the accompanying wines were..

Worth visiting for the architecture and views over Cape Town in addition to the wine and food. Over 15 years I have visited each Tim I start at the huge tasting room at the entrance and enjoy their lasted offerings before driving to the main house, worth viewing for the ambiance and the Dutch furniture. Refreshments are available in either... More

The wines here are very good but not the best in the winelands, but this is still a lovely place to come and taste some wines and have lunch as well. The staff are really friendly and helpful when conducting the tasting - not at all snobbish. If you are driving - remember to spit, down't swallow.

We went here when we got off the hop on hop off tour bus and were not disappointed. We had already done a wine tour so we were not really looking for an individually tailored wine tasting session. Instead here we got to sit outside in beautiful grounds and had some lovely food. Recommend the charcuterie and cheese board. Though... More

We opted for the museum experience rather than the wine tasting. The historic old steading is beautiful and although a fire destroyed quite a chunk in the past, it has been restored to its old glory. Unless you have quite good historical knowledge yourself, the museum itself and its artifacts are not very well explained, one just gets a well... More

A beautiful setting well geared for heaps of tourists. The tours are fabulous and the best Port I have ever had. Tons of history new and old to soak up here. Good places to eat and lots to see and do. If you only have time for one estate - do this one.

In business since 1685, this living museum/winery has served royalty, including Napoleon. Coupled with the marvellous Dutch architecture (1700s era) & well manicured grounds, GC offers something for everyone - wine connoisseur or not you'll enjoy soaking in the history & beauty. The gardens are available for private events (picnics, weddings). Check out the old "sun dial" - the most... More
