Situated 20 minutes from Cape Town central and one of the Big 6 tourist destinations, Groot Constantia is a must visit. With two fine restaurants, Jonkershuis and Simon's (contact details on website), wine tastings, chocolate and wine pairing, cellar tours and a museum that reminds one of a bygone era, this beautiful historic winery is a popular attraction. « less

A terrific experience with the fun staff and a wonderful assortment of wine and chocolate tastings. For only $6 US it's beyond amazing. The chocolate is fantastic. We really enjoyed the reserve vintage. We toured the house and grounds on a misty rainy day. It was a fun glimpse into the past, but don't expect Smithsonian level details. Many items... More

My husband and I spent about 1 1/2 hrs. at Groot Constantia. We were there late in the day so did not get a chance to go on the tour, but I did the general wine tasting, and my husband did the wine/chocolate pairing. There were quite the variety of wines to try, and the employee that helped us seemed... More

We did a cellar tour followed by wine tasting and lunch at Groot Constantia on a mild day in August. The farm's cellar tour guide and wine taster was distinctly average as she seemed bored throughout the time she was giving us the tour and telling us about the wine's the farm produced. Despite the guide's boredom, it was interesting... More

We love wine tasting. And every time we go to Cape Town I can't wait to go to Groot Constancia. It is beautiful and the wine is just lovely. It's so calm and relaxing, it doesn't even feel like you are in a big city. I will go back again and again.

Being a tour guide, we often do not have a choice of where to go as it is prescribed by the Tour operator ( often outside the country). If I had the choice I would avoid GC wine tasting like the plague. It already started with the the telephonic booking I made an hour prior to arriving, very little interest... More

We arrived at about 4:40PM, just after the tasting room had closed. They took pity on us and offered one taste each "on the house." We sampled a chardonnay, a cabernet and a pinotage. All were quite good. We bought two bottles of the pinotage, which we don't see at home. Price was reasonable for a good quality wine. Hope... More

No doubt the most charming spot you'll visit in cap town. Constantia as a whole and Groot Constantia specifically is probably the most well known and critically/royally acclaimed winery in SA.

Had heard a bit about this place but didn't know quite what to expect. We arrived to the large gates to be welcomed into the compound. We took some time to meander around the grounds, soak up some sun, enjoy a bottle of wine and some tappas at a cool courtyard, and then took to the tour. The guide was... More

The historic vineyard and farmstead are stunning. A wine tasting followed with a light lunch at the restaurant is well matched.

I stopped off here as part of the blue line hop on hop off bus tour which is perfectly run by City Sightseeing of Cape Town. It was easy to connect to the wine bus and the first stop was Groot Constancia. I went straight to the wine tasting which included a tour of the wine making process and the... More
