Uthando (Love) South Africa is an internationally award winning, unique and innovative Non Profit and Fair Trade certified company. The aim of Uthando is to raise funds and other forms of assistance for community development projects in South Africa. Uthando runs tours as daily scheduled tours AND tailormade private tours (for groups of any size). We take visitors into the townships (impoverished areas created during Apartheid on the outskirts of Cape Town) to visit incredible community development projects. We shine a light on the remarkable people and projects that are helping to build the new South Africa at grass roots level. On our tours we tell the remarkable story and history of South Africa and its brutal past, we discuss pertinent issues confronting our people, and provide an inspiring sense of hope through the efforts of dedicated grass roots leaders. Our tours are authentic, meaningful, non-invasive, respectful and very importantly beneficial to the communities being visited. The cost of our tours incorporate contributions to the projects that we visit and can thus also be considered philanthropic in nature.

I took this tour with no idea what we would really be going through, you can say that it is a surprise after surprise for every place we go. You will be amazed by the mental strength, will, and creativity of these people to try to improve lives of others who are living in the townships. The last trip to... More

Even before the tour started our guide Xolani seemed thrilled and thankful for us to be there with him and was excited to show us how the money we pay for the tours goes straight back into the community. This was an amazing experience. We made four stops: a school for local kids, community-based garden where young people can hang... More

I was hesitant to go on a tour of the Townships as I certainly am not a fan of poverty tourism however this was simply an amazing experience that I cannot recommend highly enough. Our guide was sensational and the projects we saw are a testament to the power of the human spirit. It would be a crime to visit... More

Anyone who visits South Africa and is both impressed by its beauty and the advanced level of development but is also disturbed by the persistent inequality, which still falls heavily along racial lines, can take some heart through this tour. Uthando is supporting some 45 community development programs in the townships of Capetown, and each one gives you a inspiration... More

Xolani was a great ambassador for the work that Unhand does. He was passionate, informative and a nice guy to send a morning with. Not knowing exactly what to expected, this tour exceeded all of our expectations ( 2 adults and 18 and 16 yr old). we visited a garden project, a women group, a kindergarten and a day centre... We had our tour today with our lovely Guide Xolani! We visited places like a Kindergarten, a Art and Education Center and were able to get in touch with the people. It was the best experience we made in Cape town and it went under our skin. You will get a deep view about history, life in townships and the... More
